Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1955
Vintage 60s built 1955 Chevy altered/gasser
This is a real deal east coast drag car - from the 60s! Originally built to run in altered (with a 25% engine set back) it more recently ran B/Gas.
The body is pretty darn straight / solid with only typical dings and minor dents - it was built to race long ago and has been protected from fender benders and the elements - very little cancer or rust thru. `Glass tilt front end `glass doors and `glass deck lid. Lexan windows all the way around. Floors are solid paint on underside is flaking off. Wheel wells have some bondo from radius job done years ago. Cowl was cut for original induction setup. Scoop in pictures is not mounted but included if buyer wants it. Car has lots of patina!
Originally running a bbc 427 (the flags are still on the front fenders) the original short block is long gone and a solid 454 now resides under the tilt front end - with the same high horse 427 heads that the car ran years ago! Behind it is a TH 400 that replaced the B&M clutch turbo that it ran previously.
Out back is a heavy duty early Pontiac rear with 4.88 gears - pure `60s "gasser"!
Frame is straight and solid and is still set up with the transverse spring mounted straight front axle - from the original build.
This old racer has the usual race stuff including an aluminum radiator electric water pump Holley fuel pump fuel cell 850 Holley on an aluminum riser intake 10 point cage etc. Somebody sanded the driver’s side door and the blue edge paint around the wheel well openings and along the rocker panels but the passenger side still has the original name & lettering.
I took the car in trade years ago with plans to race it but never got around to it so it's been stored ever since. I recently took it out of storage changed the oil added fresh gas and coolant. The car starts and sounds good with excellent oil pressure. No smoke or strange noises. Starter is noisy and will need attention. Brakes are very soft/weak and will also need attention. I jacked up the rear while I had the car idling to verify that it goes into forward and reverse and it did so with no issues. Beyond that I know very little about the mechanicals. Wiring is pretty messy and should be checked thoroughly. In short you're not going to head straight to the track with this car. It does need some work and is not ready to go as is.
