1931 Chevrolet Landau Phaeton “Stunning Restoration! Great Running and Driving Prewar Chevy!”
VIN 2862524
The Classic Car Gallery is proud to present this beautifully restored 1931 Chevrolet Landau Phaeton. What ended up being a complete and period correct piece of American history began as a barn find in Westbrook Connecticut. Purchased in 2004 by the current owner no time was wasted in building what could possibly be one of the nicest 31 Chevy Landau Phaetons in the country. LESS THAN 30 OF THESE ARE KNOW TO STILL EXIST. A photo documented nut and bolt restoration was completed in 2007 and has been lovingly cared for ever since. All efforts were geared toward making this restoration period correct down to the finest detail including items such as the stitching patterns on the interior and engine part colors. Factory Chevrolet colors were used for the exterior Daphnis Green for the upper body and Black for the lower. The interior was completely reupholstered in cream leather and new black carpets were installed. New wood floors were fitted as well. The original dash was kept and it along with all of the gauges were refurbished. The original 194cid 6 cylinder has approximately 326 miles since full rebuild completed by John Craig at Vintage Engine Restoration in New Milford CT. According to the engine build sheet the following was completed:
Rebore and install cylinder sleeves
Finish bore to .030 over
Deck block and head
Re-babbit and machine connecting rods and main bearings rebuild cylinder head with new stainless valves guides and seats
Install upgraded oil pump
Replace timing gears
Reface cam lifters
Rebuild rocker arms
Install oil lines
All new gaskets throughout
In addition to the engine all major components were restored or replaced as well namely the following:
All four brakes rebuilt
New king pins fitted
Restored steering box
Resurfaced Flywheel
Install new clutch pack including clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing
Replace front inner and outer bearings
Replace front wheel seals
Replace front axle seals
Install new wire wheels
Install new point set plugs rotor and wires
Install new tank and filter
Install new battery
The top is new. and the top bows and mechanism was restored as well.
As can be seen no expense was spared and the car can be purchased at a fraction of its restoration cost. This must be one of the finest 31’s in the world and would make a great addition to any collection. Whether for show or go this may be a once in a lifetime to purchase a car of this rarity and calibre.
