Major features include: - 350 cu. in. 350 hp balanced and blueprinted V8 - Holley 4 barrel carburetor - Partially plumbed for NOS injection - Rebuilt TH 350 automatic transmission - Dual exhaust w/ Smithy's glass pack mufflers; mellow 50's sound - Power brakes w/ dual master cylinder - Front disc brake kit - Front and rear anti-sway bars - Vintage Air Conditioning system - American Racing wheels - Beautiful coral/white two tone paint - Nosed and decked plus tasteful pinstriping - Excellent chrome and stainless steel trim - Beautiful coral/white interior - Modern Eclipse stereo w/ cassette and Eclipse 12 CD changer - Fully upholstered trunk - Detailed engine compartment - Very clean undercarriage - Year of manufacture California plates (Gold/Black) DETAILS-THIS PARTICULAR 1956 CHEVROLET BEL AIR This 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air has been tastefully and expertly updated both in performance and appearance and is positively one of the nicest that we have ever seen. It was restored to re-capture the youth of the current owner as a similar '56 was his favorite car that he gave up many years ago when young family needs dictated. It is now truly turn-key. needing nothing to enjoy both for cruising and displaying at car shows. The mechanical improvements make it a wonderful driver and the cosmetic upgrades/restoration make it a real head turner. It bears VIN VC56K094081 and has a current California title and registration. HISTORY As documented in a story in Chevy Classics magazine. this car was bought about 20 years ago by the current owner's son as a birthday present for his father for the two of them to restore. It was the same year as a car the father had purchased new when he was only 18 and had to sell after marriage and his family began to grow. Beginning in 1995. the two of them performed a complete body-off restoration to the current pristine condition over a period of about 10 years. It has since been driven only about 3000 miles in the past 10 years mostly in parades and to car shows. Of course. the car has been garaged and pampered and. based on the condition of the Chevy. it is difficult to believe that the restoration was not just completed. The car was originally sold in California as evidenced by the "year first sold" date on the current California title. When purchased for restoration 20 years ago. it bore California black plates 639 SUH. MECHANICAL - 350 cu. in. 350 hp V8. bored 0. 030" over. 202 heads (2. 02" intake valves). balanced and blueprinted by Rick Santos at S&S Automotive in San Leandro. R134a refrigerant - Die Hard battery - Chrome coolant recovery tank - Front disc brake kit - Dual master cylinder w/ power brakes - Rebuilt stock steering - Front and rear anti-sway bars - Stock rear end - American Racing Salt Flat Special 15 inch chrome wheels - BFG Radial T/A raised white letter tires w/ much tread Note: Tires show considerable tread but are older than - Pleasing stance with somewhat larger rear tires - Original wipers intact but not operating (CA. fair weather car that would require conversion to electric wipers) - Fully boxed "California" frame EXTERIOR - Beautiful two tone coral and white paint scheme   - Hood and trunk lid nosed and decked as in '50's - Flawless triple chrome plated bumpers both front and rear - Flawless stainless trim around all windows - Flawless grille - Fitted with year of manufacture 1956 California plates RLE 007 (front & rear) - Small. tasteful pinstriping at top of front fenders. trunk center. below tail lights. forward end of quarter panels - "Flippers" atop side windows operate with no door interference but do not close tightly (a common Tri-Five hardtop problem) - All glass is excellent - Good panel fit for a car of this era - Both doors. trunk and hood close smartly - No rust under doors INTERIOR - Beautiful coral and white pleated seats front and rear - Beautiful coral and white pleated door panels - Beautiful white headliner and sun visors - Extremely high quality "Wilton style" fully custom beige carpet w/ matching custom front mats - Shiny Fisher Body sill plates - After-market Grant steering wheel - Excellent dash w/ all stock gauges (temperature. gas. speedometer). idiot lights for oil pressure and ammeter - Unobtrusive Vintage Air installation with only the 3 vents (both sides and middle) showing - Under dash installation of modern Eclipse stereo w/ cassette; Eclipse 12 CD changer in trunk; two 8" Alpine speakers in rear package shelf - Stock radio in dash but not connected (condition unknown) - Stock clock in dash but not operating - Four after-market seat belts installed (lap only) - New weather stripping on doors and trunk - Stock vacuum wipers intact but inoperable - All 4 windows crank easily; both vent wings open easily - Fully upholstered trunk including a custom spare tire cover w/ logo - Engine bay sheet metal is powder coated & highly detailed COSMETIC CONDITION Probably the most outstanding feature of this car is the near flawless cosmetic condition. The coral/white two tone exterior paint is smooth. shiny and rich appearing with no orange peel. There are no noticeable flaws and no imminent rust "hot spots" under the paint. Small. classic California "tear drop" hand painted accents have been added to several areas (refer to detailed photos). All chrome and stainless steel is of show quality. All glass is excellent. The coral/white interior is equally near flawless and very showy in appearance. There is no evidence of wear or sun damage. The engine bay is extremely clean and neat. The fully upholstered trunk shows nicely and is solid and pleasingly painted. The underside of the car is neat and clean as if just restored. No significant drips have been noted. The odometer currently reads 83. 65. Mileage is being judged as "total miles unknown (TMU) based on the age (58 years old!) of Chevy and the inability to accurately track the mileage over the course of all of these years. Although not a trailer queen. this car is of show quality and can be proudly cruised and displayed at car shows. The extensive photographs accurately reflect the car's condition including the body. paint. engine compartment. interior and underside. OTHER - Clear California title with current California registration - California year of manufacture plates transferable to California buyer - California smog test not required for vehicles 1975 and older - Passed the California required safety inspection for turn signals. lights. brakes. etc. HISTORY OF THE 1956 CHEVROLET BEL AIR The 1956 Chevrolet is the middle year of the very popular "Tri-Five" family of Chevrolets (1955. 1956 and 1957). The Bel Airs of this vintage are part of the second generation of that model. For 1955. Chevrolet's full-size model received all new styling and power. It was called the "Hot One" in GM's advertising campaign. Chevrolet's styling was crisp. clean and incorporated a Ferrari-inspired grille. Bel Airs came with features found on cars in the lower model ranges plus interior carpet. chrome headliner bands on hardtops. chrome spears on front fenders. stainless steel window moldings. and full wheel covers. Later in the year. models were further distinguished by the Bel Air name script in gold lettering. For 1955 Chevrolets gained a V8 engine option and the option of a 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission or a three speed manual transmission with optional overdrive. The new 265 cu in V8 featured a modern. overhead valve high compression. short stroke design that was so good that it remained in production in various displacements for many decades. The base V8 had a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 162 hp. and the "Power Pack" option featured a four-barrel carburetor and other upgrades yielding 180 hp. Later in the year. a "Super Power Pack" option added high compression and a further 15 hp. "Idiot lights" replaced gauges for the generator and oil pressure. Motor Trend magazine gave the Bel Air top marks for handling. Popular Mechanics reported good acceleration for the V8 with Powerglide plus a comfortable ride and good visibility. Front legroom was 43. 1". Brakes were 11" drums. A new option for V8-equipped 1955 models was air conditioning. with outlets on each side of the dashboard. The 1956 Bel Air received a face-lift with a more conventional full-width grille. pleasing those customers who didn't favor the Ferrari-inspired '55 front end. Distinctive two-tone body side treatments and graceful front and rear wheel openings completed the "speedline" restyling. Single housings incorporated the taillight. stoplight. and backup light. and the left one held the gas filler - an idea popularized on Cadillacs. There were 7 different Bel Air models with two-door hardtop production at 128. 00. Seatbelts. shoulder harnesses. and a padded dashboard were available. and full-size cars could even get the hot Corvette 225-horsepower engine.
