Description for Chrysler Newport 1974
A beautiful and rare 2 door, black Chrysler Newport. This car was a barn find where it sat inside for many years with a very low 25000 miles. The Newport starts easily and drives flawless. I usually don't recommend fly in and drive home with antique cars but this one is a great driver. The car went through an extensive revival to make it into a drive anywhere classic. It is rare, I have never seen another one. The Newport goes down the road like riding on a cloud. It also handles very well for a big car; probably why the big Mopars were favorites as police cars. This one should have been in the Blues Brothers chase scenes. Everything works on the car, all lights, including interior lights, radio, lighter, heater, wipers and emergency brake. The interior is in great shape for a 42 year old car. It is all original, with a nice dash, steering wheel, pedals and even the original carpet. The back seat looks new and the door panels are also very nice. The head liner has a couple of holes and the front seat has a split in 2 places as shown in the pictures. The front seat does does have a few small circular stains which i have not tried to clean. Still a very comfortable seat for long rides with no fatigue. The remote left mirror was found with the trim nut under the seat. I believe this nut came loose and the cable slipped inside the door. I put the trim nut back on but never had time to pull the door panel. The trunk still has the original jack with a good spare and it has always been dry.The paint is the Chrysler code TX9 black, where the bodies were hand selected for the best before painting the defect revealing black paint. The car has never been crashed so it still remains very straight with good panel fit. The paint is mostly original. I had the bottom painted below the first body line due to rock chips, the trunk painted due to box storage on it and right fender and door painted due to paint failure, some cracking or crazing of the original. Overall it does look very very nice but it is not a trailer queen show car. It does have a couple of dings and some scratch touch ups. I prefer to have cars that I can drive and not worry about who is going to ruin my $5000 paint job. It is a way above average driver, that you can drive anywhere and show up in a very rare car. You won't find another one at just about about any car show you go to. There are a couple of wrinkles in the vinyl half top which is a very dark green. I would replace this with a black one if I kept the car. The bumpers and grill work are very nice except the rear bumper has some spots where the chrome is weak but no dents. The bottom has only surface rust but no holes and no rot.
The following parts were replaced with new. Torque thrust style wheels and 235 75 series tires. The new wheel and tire set adds to the already nice ride of this fine car. A complete custom made dual exhaust system from the manifold on back with Flowmaster F40 type mufflers, exiting through 2 1/2 inch pipe for plenty of breathing room. Besides the exhaust and wheels, the car is all stock. This car sounds like a race car from the back with a nice lope and healthy sound but going down the road it is just a low rumble. New belts, hoses, coolant, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, vacuum advance, starter, battery, fuel pump, water pump, rebuilt carb, gas tank cleaned and replaced, factory disc brakes replaced including pads and rotors, rear brakes including, shoes, wheel cylinders, brake lines and hoses, master cylinder, headlight switch, windshield wiper bushings, starter relay, Fresh oil change and filter.
In summary, a way above average driver that can truly go anywhere, a rare 2 door coupe in the TX 9 paint code, with only 25004 miles. Not a perfect show car but rare and respectable. Drive in comfort, arrive in style and be the only one at the show. I have given this car the 1500 mile test drive for you, so all of the parts and improvements are fresh. I personally know the car is ready to go.
