1968 Chrysler Newport Convertible | |
Up for auction is this very nice, above driver, quality 1968 Chrysler Newport Convertible. This Convertible is a very solid car! The 1968 Newport received only a minor facelift from its 1967 counterpart including new grilles and taillights. All body styles were carried over on both the base Newport and Newport Custom lines. The standard 383cuin (6.3L) two-barrelV8received a 20hp (15kW; 20PS) increase to 290hp. The 383ci engine in this car is a strong runner, starts right up and pulls this heavy car right along. The car also has factory power steering and brakes to make it an absolute joy to drive. The odometer is only reading 42,547. We have no documentation that the miles are actual, but from the overall condition of the car it is very possible to be correct. Also, the engine is a numbers matching engine. The Newport is in too good of unrestored condition to be 142,547 but you will need to judge for yourself. The factory A/C does kick on, but only blows warm air out. The automatic transmission shifts perfectly, up and down.
The Sandalwood paint on the car is the original color per the trim tag and looks good. Once you get right up on the car you will notice some areas that the paint is starting to show some age. The rust free body is very straight and solid! All the chrome is in good condition and shines nicely as you can see from the pictures that I just took this past weekend. Inside the trunk and in the fenders this car is rock solid! We put the car up on a lift to make sure you could see the undercarriage of this time piece. 1960 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1969 1970 1971 1972 1973 1975
