Description for Chrysler New Yorker 1947
1947 Chrysler ProjectThank you for looking at our NO RESERVE auction for a 1947 Chrysler! We have been told this could be a rare Chrysler but we are unsure of its history. As we understand the story, this vehicle was ordered new by a celebrity and the vehicle (originally a coupe) was shipped directly to a shop in California that modified the car to be a 3 passenger convertible. The celebrity saw artwork of the Town and Country roadster and had to have it. The shop in California did the conversion, the only one known to have been completed. Over time, the car was repainted multiple colors and ended up being shipped to Canada where it lived for a long period of time and had the original motor replaced with a 383 before being bought by the previous owners. They planned to research and return the vehicle to its original condition but never started the project. If the story is true, this would be a very rare car. Unfortunately, we don't have the contacts or expertise to verify the story and can do no more than share it with you and make no claims to it. What we do know is that this is a 1947 Chrysler. The motor doesn't run and it does not have a back seat. The convertible top does not look quite like it is factory original to the car (which adds weight to the story) but looks like it would function properly after restoration. It does fit fairly well and looks to be a mostly complete structure that does open and close manually. The interior is quite incomplete but the dash does look to be all there. As shown in the photos, there does seem to be some rust damage in various parts of the car. Whether you are interested in the car for its potential historical value or are looking for a unique hot rod project, this could be a fun one! Please message us with any questions about the car or schedule a time to come see it for yourself. Thanks again for looking and good luck in bidding!
