Smooth running, driving, garaged 1972 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron 4-door with a little over 66,200 original miles. Unmolested survivor. Very good condition inside and out. Please read the entire listing and carefully view all photos before making an offer or inquiring, thanks.Original 440 cui V8 motor. Light yellow exterior with dark tan interior. Power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, cruise control (works!), rim-blow horn (works!). AM/FM stereo. Power windows (the 2 rear windows do not work - see below).
I have owned this car for 3-1/2 years and have put about a thousand miles on it.I purchased it from a Pennsylvania dealer who had the car traded in by the previous owner. I tracked down and spoke to the owner by phone who said it was in his family for 20 years (always titled in PA). Clear title is now in my name, also in Pennsylvania.
I had new tires installed on the car and had oil changes done. I put a clamp on a section of the exhaust that looked weak. That's about the extent of the work I've done. The prior owner installed a tastefully-done, working center brake light inside the rear window. I've only used non-ethanol gas in this car as ethanol is known to be bad for classic cars.
It takes a few pumps of the gas and a few cranks of the key to start when cold but when warmed up it idles smooth and drives like a luxury car of that era should – transmission shifting smoothly and a ride like floating sofa. You can turn the steering wheel with your pinky finger.
Watch the video to hear smooth start-up and the engine running. Note that the odd creaking/squeaking sound you hear in the beginning is just the seat leather as I move around!
I am not a mechanic or auto body guy but I will try to explain all flaws I know on the car. Body and interior including chrome are in very good condition – see photos. There are small dings, blemishes, touch-ups and small areas of surface rust present as expected in a car of this age. No rot. There is one rust bubble on lower driver side fender behind wheel well. (eBay limits the number of photos but I am happy to send a photo of that area to you.) The driver seat has wear as shown in photos.
The 2 rear electric windows do not work - I can hear the motor whirring but window does not move.Clock and electric antenna do not work, although you can pull up/retract the antenna by hand.Fan works but air conditioning does not blow cold. Temp gauge does not work. The Fuel gaugeworks, but always shows about 1/4 less than actual level. The door lock button on driver armrest does not work, but locks can be opened by hand or by using the key in outside keyholes. I have 2 sets of keys.
Brakes are starting to feel a little spongy - may soon need master cylinder and booster.
There seems to be a very slow leak of oil at the valve cover gasket. I have purchased new gaskets but have not installed them. They go with the car. My mechanic said the belts are getting old and should be replaced next oil change.
The rear bottom of the vinyl top (where it meets the trunk) is usually where there is rust on these cars but that area is in great condition - no bubbling. There is some bubbling under the vinyl on both rear pillars as shown in photos, although those sections feel solid.
The car drives great - I take it for a drive around town every weekend I can - but I would make the repairs above and have your own mechanic give it a thorough inspection before taking it on a longer trip.Mileage may increase from what is stated here as I do continue to drive it.
The car isn’t perfect - keep in mind it’s 50 years old - but it is a good, straight, solid vehicle that drives extremely well. Please review all the photos carefully. I want you to know 100% what you are buying with no surprises. As I mentioned, I’m not a mechanic nor a body/detail guy, so you’re getting a description from a layman in layman terms, but I have tried to be as accurate as possible. The car looks to be all original, but I can’t say for sure.
Please ask any questions. I’m not a professional photographer - I took all photos with my iPhone - but I am willing to take and send more photos or do a video call with serious buyers to better show the car.
I did not wax this car; I only gave it a waterless spray wash. I also did not clean the engine compartment, polish the chrome or deeply clean the vinyl. If you gave it a thorough detailing, I bet it would look even more spectacular than it already does.
Clear title is in my name, ready to be transferred to the new owner.
A similar 1973 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron 4-door with 53k miles sold for $19,000 on Bring a Trailer in May and one with 26k miles sold at a Mecum auction in September for $44,000, so I feel my asking price is fair but I am open to a reasonable offer.

I know how much these cars are loved outside the U.S., but in all cases, funds must clear my bank before I will let the car leave my possession.
