Description for Chrysler Imperial 1936
Chrysler Imperial C10 Airflow
This is a rare, hard to find and 99% complete 1936 Chrysler C-10 Airflow 8. Chrysler only produced 4,497 of the four-door Imperial sedan in 1936. Walter Chrysler took the Chrysler Airflow 8 to Bonneville salt flats where it ran the 90 mph for 24 hours straight and reached a top speed of 97mph ! This car restored will keep up all day at modern highway speeds, very impressive for a 1936 car!
This vehicle has its original 130hp straight 8 engine and original 3 speed transmission with overdrive operated by the pull knob on the dash. The engine was test run earlier this year after the head gasket was replaced with an NOS one and the engine was visually inspected. It ran from a temporary fuel tank; we took a short video of it running with a healthy 40psi showing on oil pressure gauge. We did not attempt to use brakes and only used the hand brake for towing, loading, and unloading. The Instrument panel and gauges will look really nice once cleaned up and gone through. This car is very solid with minimal rust. The only rust I have found is in the trunk lid lower lip body groove and both sides of the trunk area have some small rust out. Fenders look great, The body looks very straight and solid on this is currently in mostly in primer. The grille is there but there is one small piece is missing. The hood ornament is solid piece in nice condition and is VERY hard to find. All the exterior door handles and trunk handles are included, some Interiors are not installed. The intake breather assembly appears complete and is in the trunk. This car includes the rear fender skirts (another very expensive and hard to find item!)The wheels are the correct 16" artillery style with the hubcaps, the tires appear to be new and never used. The seats appear to have been recovered by the school that worked on the car. The robe rail is complete and on back window deck. All the stainless trim is with the car and very good shape. Two NOS headlamp lenses are installed and go with the car. There are several keys included with the car that came with it, but I have not verified that the correct key is included. A few Interior handles or escutcheons may be missing but pretty much everything else on car is there. The car is as displayed in the pictures and will need to be restored or gone through mechanically to be brought to roadworthy condition. This is NOT a running driving car as it is currently offered.
This car was last owned by an eccentric lawyer who purchased the car from a couple in the Midwest. Around 1990, he took it to a local trade school in Tennessee to have the body work done. He paid to have them remove the fenders and running boards and start sanding and prep for car for paint. The car was left there for several years and finally the owner told the school put all the parts back on and prepare for it to be picked up and sold. The car was picked up by a local Auction Co. and eventually auctioned from the local estate Auction company.. I purchased the car from this auction and have collected most of the parts that were missing as listed above to get it ready to complete the restoration. This car IMO will make a super project to bring her back to her glory and save her for Preservation.
These cars are currently selling in restored grade 1 for 58-63K based on past sales and 2019 Buyers guide. If you are a Serious Buyer and want to come see the car or send someone to see the car, I welcome that. No tire Kickers.
I have tried to list all I know and describe this as accurately as possible, please ask questions if something is not clear. I have more pics that would not upload, so if you want more pics just message your request. The car has a clear Tenn. title.
