Description for Chrysler Other 1947

1947 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe Highlander - A Real Survivor - No Reserve NO RESERVE. A real survivor. this is an almost all original 1947 Chrysler Windsor Highlander 2 door Club Coupe that looks. runs. and drives great. It has the original drive train with Fluid Drive Semi-Automatic transmission and a 6 cylinder engine. This is no show car. but it is a great looking. well preserved. attention grabbing. very solid Western car. As for rust. there is no “cancer”. only some surface rust on the underside of the car. and here and there elsewhere. Please note that there are nearly 70 photos below in addition to the supersize photos. We bought the car 3 years ago from a Mopar collector in Arizona. At that time the car had been stored indoors on blocks for many years. He had a winter home in South Dakota where he had purchased this car at an estate auction about 20 years ago. The cars runs well. starts easily. does not smoke. stops straight. and is quiet and smooth when flying down the road. When sitting at a stop light. it does vibrate or miss a bit. I have driven the car over 2. 00 miles. most at freeway speeds on Los Angeles area freeways. and it does just great! When first purchased. it was leaking oil badly. It appeared to be only a leaking oil pump which I replaced. This did stop most of the leaking. However. it does still leak oil. The remaining leak appears to be coming from the front area of the engine. It runs along the oil pan downhill to the rear of the pan. and drips to the ground. I recently took the car on a long drive. When returning home. I parked the vehicle for three days without moving it. I then measured the diameter of the oil stain and it was about 9 inches. I’ve seen worse. but this does need to be addressed if you want a clean garage. Almost everything works great. such as the heater. radio. horn. electric wipers (kinda slow). interior lights. dash lights. turn signals. back up light. and gauges. The clock does not work. The Semi Automatic Fluid Drive transmission performs flawlessly. shifting automatically up and down just as it should. Even the kick-down switch works great ! Initially. the speedometer cable was broken. Upon replacing it. the speedometer was very noisy so we oiled it well and it has been quiet ever since. Then when the odometer moved forward to 69. 99. it stopped. So the odometer no longer works. but the speedometer does work as does the trip meter. The BF Goodrich 7:60 x 15 tires still have lots of tread and look great. The window glass is all in nice shape. The windows go up and down well except for the right rear quarter window. It is slow and stubborn and needs help going up and down. Please note that there are some scuff marks on this window glass. As for the window crank handles. it does have all four of its very rare and desirable “flipper/floppy” handles with plastic. Also. the trunk and door locks all work fine. and the original factory Mopar “DPCD” aluminum ignition/door and trunk keys are included. Most of the factory applied “Catalina Tan” paint is still intact and shines up with wax. The left side of the hood and left front fender appear to have been resprayed at some point. These areas are not as shiny as the rest of the paint. but are not easily noticeable. Further. the car apparently drove down many gravel roads which has left numerous chips/dings/paint loss along the lower part of the car. rear fenders. and under the car. It also appears that while in storage it suffered a few dents from objects that fell on it from an overly full garage. There is a small dent on top of the right rear fender. a small dent on the left side of the roof. a small area of waviness on the right side of the roof (note quarter in photo marking the spot). a small area of waviness on the left side of the upper trunk. all of which you hopefully can see in the photos. There is also a dent on one of the front headlight rings (note quarter in photo). These are all small dents. However. the right rear fender was smashed/buckled and knocked back out leaving it very bumpy as can be seen in several photos. Additionally. each rear fender has one very small screw hole that was drilled to allow for fender skirts. These are at the bottom rear portion of the fender below the bumper and are not easily noticed. The chrome is mostly shiny and in good condition. There are some dull areas. and some very shiny areas. For example. the grille and right side whiskers are very nice while the left side whiskers have pits but are still shiny (see photos). The stainless is also in good condition. some having been polished. There is a very small hole that has been drilled in the left hood belt molding. The original “Highlander” plaid upholstery is in good condition for its age. However. the top of the back set lean is worn/aged thin. Further. the front seat has numerous areas where someone stitched (with needle and thread) tears/splits as the cloth aged. A clear plastic seat cover was put on to protect the fabric and to discourage further deterioration. This helps to mask these repairs. but they are still noticeable as can be seen in the photos. The car also still has its original hogshair carpeting. but the front seat area shows age and wear. The dash and its plastic look great. with the glove box door plastic showing signs of repair/mending where they commonly crack. The steering wheel is beautiful. however it is off center a bit……. when driving straight down the road. the wheel is to the left at 10 or 11 o’clock. instead of at 12 o’clock. Recent maintenance includes: Drained gas tank. Replaced leaking gasket on gas tank sending unit. Flushed old gas from fuel system. Rebuilt carburetor. Replaced fluids (oil. cooling. transmission. rear end. brake). Lube job. Corrected mixed up transmission relay wires. New oil pump (old one working but leaking). New exhaust system. Brake work (wheel cylinders. rear hose. flushed old fluid). Replaced speedometer cable. Rebuilt starter and starter solenoid. New vintage style battery cables. Installed manual heater valve. Replaced heater hoses and upper radiator hose. Replaced heater hose outlet at thermostat. New battery cables. New speedometer cable. Oiled speedometer. New spark plug wires. distributor cap. points. rotor. The car does have some accessories. such as the two rare and desirable cowl mount mirrors. working backup light (switch under dash near hand brake). dual All Weather heaters. and a Fulton Sun Shield visor. This visor does have damage on the right side…. a short tear in the metal as can be seen in the photos. Overall. the car presents very well for its age and originality. and for being unrestored. I can barely drive down the street for a block without someone giving me a thumbs up. or honking their horn. Just buying gas often results in lots of attention and numerous compliments. It is not a perfect show car but it always turns heads. can be driven with pride. and overall is amazing for its original beauty inside and out. It is currently registered with a California title.
