Description for Citroën 1973
Rare Citroen SM, 3 litre engine with 5 speed transmission. Air conditioned. Equipped with European spec headlights. The car comes with a comprehensive set of service records. Over 120 detailed invoices of repairs and service, all cataloged and indexed, dating back to early 1980s. Car was serviced by SM World (Jerry Hathaway) in CA until mid 2000s. Apparently, the car then sat for a few years, before being acquired by a Texas owner. He had the car shipped to Dave Burnham in NY,in 2012 where $17,000 in repairs were performed. The car got new heads/short block, new timing chain and tensioners, new spheres, new ignition system with John Titus distributor, clutch/pressure plate and more. In 2016/17, the car had a major overhaul by David Hume/Excelsior Motors (KY) $8000. New ignition switch, new main accumulator, installed stainless steel exhaust system (OEM spec) New boots, and more. Most recently, the car had the main brake accumulator replaced, and a defective radiator fan rebuilt. ($2000) by GLB Motors in St Louis. The exterior of the car is almost concours standard. New paint job in the original color, 2 years ago is near perfect. Stainless steel bumpers and glassware are in excellent shape. Electric windows and electric radio antenna work correctly. Car will turn heads everywhere it goes. The interior is mostly original. It even has the original Citroen radio (speakers are shot) No cracks in dash. Seats are as one would expect for a 45 year old car - some seam separations, and some flaking of the leather. No major rips or tears. Seats are functional and aesthetically acceptable. Carpet is in decent shape, with no tears or discoloration/stains. Head liner is new, done in Citroen material. Tachometer reads high (due to installation of electronic ignition). Jaeger clock does not work. Air conditioner works well, and was converted to R-134. Brakes and tires are 80% plus. As well as the service records, there is an owner's manual and a number of workshop manuals and repair/parts manuals, and lots of articles and magazines discussing the SM. The car runs great - fast and incredibly comfortable. I would be happy to do a video walkaround with a prospective buyer, and would deliver car to any inspection garage in St Louis if buyer wants it checked out professionally. I can send more photos on request. The car runs extremely well. Transmission is smooth, New battery (if you've ever tried to replace a SM battery, you would know this is a real plus) Ride is excellent. Car drives almost like brand new. Hydraulics work perfectly. Fast and incredibly comfortable. I will pick buyer up at either St Louis or Cape Girardeau airport if you want to drive the car home. (Cape Girardeau airport has direct flights from Chicago O'Hare). For $100, I would also take car to Memphis or Nashville. This car had been thoroughly repaired and checked and should provide the buyer with years of trouble-free motoring. ***There will be a $195 fee added to the final purchase price, to cover selling costs ***
