Description for Daihatsu Hijet 1983
Since this is a Japanese import vehicle it does not have a standard VIN. Ebay's system does not allow for a Japanese VIN. Actual Japanese VIN is S65V-732730This is a 1983 Daihatsu Hijet, an imported kei-class van from Japan. It's small on a whole other level. 72 inch wheelbase, 11 feet long and 4.5 feet wide.
A verified 20,411 km is on the odometer (which translates to 12,683 miles). It is completely stock and 100% original. It is powered by a 4 stroke, 2 cylinder water-cooled 550 cc engine that is under the front seats. The engine runs excellent and absolutely does not leak anything, nor burn any oil.It is rear wheel drive, has a 4 speed manual transmission, and is right-hand drive. It has a sliding door on each side, with windows that slide open forward and backward, and any mix in between. The rear hatch struts are in excellent shape and lift and hold the door open properly.
Interior is excellent, seats, dashboard, steering wheel, headliner, everything is as nice as it could possibly be.Paperboard backing on the front foot well underneath the front seats shows wear.Interior plastics are excellent.Lights and bulbs are in perfect working order.Rear rubber matting is perfect. Over the years, it was used with a protective white matting for the rear. Not pictured, but included. It did an excellent job protecting the van's floor and it'll be a nice thing to have if you plan on doing any hauling.
Glass and seals are perfect. Lights and lenses are all present and not broken.
Rear bench folds up to give you more storage in the back.
Body is excellent. No rust of any kind present anywhere. A few scratches are present and some not-quite the correct color touch up paint had been used by the previous owner. It does have two dents, on the left front fender and on the rear right wheel well, both visible in the pictures. The scratches are also visible. The rear bed is flawless.
Things I've done:Four brand new tires (Yokohamas)
The radiator has been re-cored and re-manufacturedBrand new air filter
This is legal to be driven anywhere in the United States. It is titled in Florida and there is zero restrictions. Top speed she's comfortable at is about 50-55 mph, although she will do more. The 'speed buzzer' is still active and goes off when you pass 85 kph. Can be disabled.
Everyone loves it, absolutely everyone. If you want the most unique beach or surf vehicle you can't do better than this small, extremely practical and cute yellow Hijet. Strap some surf boards to it and really get the looks. You would be hard pressed to find anything else that can pull the attention that this does. Use it for whatever you'd like, it's weird and unique but is still extremely practical and usable, it is a commercial vehicle first and foremost. A few rural post office workers have asked me about these vans when I drive them around, would be great for that.I personally imported, titled it and went through the process to legally import it for use in the US. It has a clean and legal Florida title complete with proper Federal import paperwork. It is currently insured and plated and I do drive it occasionally. It needs nothing. All you have to do is drive it away.
Contemporaries at the time of this Hijet would be the Honda Acty, Mitsubishi Minicab, and the Suzuki Every.
