Description for Datsun Z-Series 1978
Up for auction is a 1978 280z Black Pearl edition with 96000k miles, -speed manual. This Z is in original condition. Paint and interior are original even has original stripes. Very cool car runs and drives. Not all gauges work. the car has rust in the normal places from sitting out as seen in photos. This is a goodcandidatefor restoration. These cars are getting harder and harder to find. The great thing is this car has not repainted it is how it was back in the day. No rust in the trunk and the floors only appear to have surface rust. Paint code 638 and has original radiator cap. Seats and door panels are nice needs carpet. I also have a good condition rear bumper to replace the one currently on the car. Below is some descriptions I pulled from the web.. Good Luck!!The 1978 Black Pearl Edition 280Zwas the first black Z Car Produced. It was actually a test market device to determin if the color black should be added to the Z Car model line colors. It was so successful that in 1979 with the introduction of the 280ZX Datsun featured their all Black 280ZX's in their "Black Gold" ad.'s.
We know what at least one Black Pearl Edition with the "SPORTS APPEARANCE PACKAGE" was sent to each Authorized Datsun Dealer in 1978, ith the larger volume Dealers receiving more than one. Thus at least 850 Black Pearl Editions with the SAP were produced and most likely something closer to 1200 or 1500 of them. We have no offical production figures for the number of cars which received only the Black Pearl Metalic Paint (but not, he Sports Appearance Package.).
