Description for Datsun Z-Series 1971
Original 1971 Datsun 240z. I purchased the car in 2011 from a gentleman in Montana who claimed to have purchased it new in Denver back in 71. It's a very clean, straight car and a great candidate for a restoration. Odometer reads 74,194 miles but I assume that it's rolled over once. It has been repainted before with the original Nissan Safari Gold. I currently drive it a few times a week during the warmer months but stays in the garage during the winter. I have replaced a lot on it but it still needs some work. I will try to include all the details. The Good:
- Original L24 motor I refreshed back in 2015; new rings, bearings, gaskets, valve seals, etc. Runs strong. Repainted block with original Nissan blue paint
- Recored original radiator
- Replaced clutch, starter, alternator, battery, oil pump, clutch master and slave cylinders
- Dash in very good shape with only a 1 long inch crack in the middle
- Original AM/FM radio
- Body is very straight and no evidence that it has been in an accident
- Floorboards have no rust
- Hatch has no rust
- No rust under battery tray
- Driver side rear quarter panel was replaced by previous owner. No sign of rust.
- Original glass and weather stripping
- Tires are like new
- Original wheels and hubcaps come with it
- Paint is fading. It looks good from 10 feet away
- Small dent in the nose of the hood
- Rust is starting to come through on the passenger side lower rear quarter panel
- There is some surface rust on frame rails behind front wheels. See pics
- There is a small oil leak from what appear to be the oil pan gasket, which I blame myself for. It isn't bad enough that I've take the time to replace yet.
- Tach and clock don't work
- Turn signal works to the right but left you have to hold the lever. Common issue
- Seats are starting to tear.
