Description for DeSoto Airflow Sedan 1936
Up for auction is a very rare car; a 1936 Desoto Airflow S2 Sedan that is 95% complete, an excellent restoration project that ha already been started with many restored and some NOS parts included with the sale (NOTE, we have recently added more photos of these parts, but we have dozens more available upon request).
If you've been looking for an Airflow you know how rare these are, and they do not come up very often.
The Chrysler (8 cyl) and Desoto (6 cyl) Airflow cars were truly revolutionary groundbreaking cars and introduced many major technical advancements in automotive design, including being the first car designed in a wind tunnel to improve drag and speed without adding horsepower, moving the engine over the front axle so in turn both of the passenger seats would ride 'between the wheels' for a smoother ride, and perhaps the most significant; this was the world's first 'uni-body' design, you passengers rode 'inside the frame' which greatly improved survival in case of a crash....all features common to automobiles ever since!
This Airflow 1936 S2 Sedan has some minor rust in the usual places; rear truck area, edges of lower fenders, but overall it is a 95% complete and solid car with all of it's original drive train. The original engine and trans are currently out of the car, and this car comes with an extra block as well. Some parts are already restored, such as both the front and rear bumpers and bumper parts are already rechromed, There is also a brand new clutch, and all the window and door rubber parts are NOS sealed in their plasic bags...so the restoration is well on it'sway.
This S2 Sedan also has the rare radio option, an electric clock built into the right glove box door (the S2 came with TWO glove boxes!), and both of it's fender skirt w/ emblems.
Most importantly, it has it's original grill and mascot in tact with just minor pitting and no 'broken bones'....so this car will restore to show quality no problem.
The Airflow Club of America is an excellent club for supporting your restoration and has re manufactured many of the rare items needed for restoration.
Free delivery within the SoCal area, or we can help to arrange transportation for you. Note, we will also be listing a 1935 Desoto SG coupe, in similar very restore-able condition in a separate auction.
Please see attached photos for details, and ask us if you'd like to see more. The car is available for inspection at our Woodland Hills shop during normal business hours, appointments on weekend possible. Thanks for looking, Penta Motorsports (check out our website).
