Description for Dodge Ram 2500 1992
Please view all 45 super sized photos in the web-album and read the full description prior to bidding. Thank you. You are looking at a 1991. 5 (1992) 1st generation Cummins Dodge Ram. It is fairly original and un-molested. The engine does have a 2nd gen intake manifold and custom polished aluminum intake horn to allow it to breathe a little better. but the injection pump has never been turned up. and is bone stock. So. it makes good power. but doesn't belch a bunch of black smoke. When you remove the oil-filler cap. it doesn't exhibit ANY blow-by (which would be a tell-tale sign of a tired. worked-over engine). The transmission is the legendary Torqueflight 727 with NP-205 Transfer Case (also bulletproof). and shifts excellently with no shudder or slippage whatsoever. The first-gen Cummins Dodges were not plagued with the automatic transmission issues that the 2nd gen models were notorious for. and this is arguably the most simple. rugged. & long-lasting trouble-free engine/transmission/transfer-case combination ever put into any pickup before or since! The alignment is good (the truck drives straight down the road & doesn't wander or have excessive play in the steering). The brake pedal feels a little spongy (just like every one of these I've ever owned did). but the truck stops very well & brakes don't grab or pull to either side. The tires have a decent amount of tread left on them as you can see in one close-up picture. The 4-wheel-drive works great in high & low range. and this truck is unstoppable when 4x4 is engaged (I believe the rear-axle to be limited-slip. but haven't lifted it up in the air to confirm that). I still have the original seat which came with the truck. and the upholstery on it is in good condition. & not ripped. but its foam was collapsed on the driver's side. so someone replaced it with a 2nd gen Dodge seat. The fact that the original seat isn't worn to pieces makes me believe that the odometer reading isn't far from the actual miles. but it has stopped working sometime in the recent past at 148. 07 miles. The truck has power mirrors. and power windows. They do work. but are a bit sluggish. The original cab had some rust beginning to form. so the whole thing was swapped-over with a rust-free cab. The frame & the whole rest of the truck are incredibly solid with only one small area on the corner of the driver's door and bottom of fender (which I included a close-up photo of). It's otherwise a rust-free truck now. The exhaust is all good front-to-rear. It has a heavy duty rear bumper with cutouts where auxiliary lights could be mounted if desired. and a nice original front bumper & grill with their chrome plating still in good condition. The interior is a little rough. but not bad compared to the vast-majority of these 1st gen Dodges I've seen. All the gauges work. and there is an aftermarket pyrometer & turbo-boost gauge on the windshield A-pillar. The heat and blower motor work. This truck; like so many of them over the years; has had the addition of a push-button-starter. as the original ignition key-tumbler electrical contacts simply wear out. A previous owner omitted the electric fuel-shutoff solonoid on the fuel-injection pump converting it to being 100% mechanical. so you pull a fuel kill-knob (just like on a semi or tractor) to shut off the engine. It actually makes the truck even more dependable. because in the event of an electrical system failure. the engine requires absolutely zero electricity to run. indefinitely. as long as it's got fuel. All the glass is nice. and un-cracked. A previous owner applied window-tint film to the side and rear windows. There is a goose-neck style hitch in the bed as well as a heavy duty tongue hitch that protrudes through the beefy rear bumper. If nobody buys this vehicle. I plan to weld a square hitch-receiver onto the bottom of that so that various sizes of hitch-ball can be changed out quickly. and I'll just start using this for my daily-driver & hauling rig. I believe it to be the stock ride-height suspension. but there are larger 35 inch tall tires on aftermarket chrome wheels now. so the truck sits up a little higher. It's easy to get up into though. with those chrome step-bars beneath the doors. As you can see. the inside of the bed is very decent. and not all beat-up with dents. and it has a nice. unbent tailgate (which is unusual). The KC auxiliary Lights on the roof bar are new. but not wired up yet. & I would knock $75 off the price of the truck if I can keep that setup for a future truck. Most of these first-gen Dodges have been ridden-hard. and put away wet. They are typically REALLY ratty and all worn out because the Cummins engine will simply outlast 2 or 3 trucks. (which is why so often. these fabulous engines are swapped into lower mileage Fords & Chevy's). This one is not a show truck. but if you're looking for something dependable and not completely trashed & rusted out. here is a very decent 1st gen Cummins Dodge. The less-common extended-cab versions of these trucks are particularly desirable! The truck is reliable enough to drive anywhere on a moment's notice. and has 3:07 gears in the axles. so it gets over 20 miles per gallon on the highway! Fires right up in the cold (Cummins' start better than any other diesel out there). Test drives are welcome with a valid driver's license. I've got the truck currently plated & titled in my name with a good. clean title ready to go. If you have any other questions. I may be reached at 64l 5l2 5229 afternoons & evenings. By bidding on. or otherwise agreeing to purchase this vehicle. you acknowledge that it is being sold As Is without warranty. I can store for a reasonable amount of time if need be. but ask for the vehicle to be paid for in full within 2 weeks of auction's end. and require a $250 security deposit within 24 hours of auction's end. If having it shipped with an auto-transporter. then a cashier's check is acceptable. but must be cleared before vehicle leaves. otherwise cash-in-person is always preferable. Fly out and drive it home if need be! Thanks for your cooperation & understanding.
