Description for Dodge Power Wagon 1979
Mopar 4x4 fanatics, you will want to look very closely at this amazing pickup truck! 'Red Hills Rods & Classics' is excited to offer you this absolutely gorgeous 1979 Dodge Power Wagon 4x4 Custom Pickup, built by Tom Nelson of Nelson Racing Engines for NFL linebacker Travis LaBoy. It all started when Travis saw the motion picture 'Due Date' starring Robert Downey Jr., which featured a beautiful black 1979 Dodge 4x4 Pickup, which inspired Travis to build one that was very similar. He commissioned Nelson Racing Engines to do the build and the no expense spared project began. Tom found a 1979 Dodge Warlock 4x4 Pickup to use as the foundation for the build, and the extensive planning began. Countless man-hours were spent on the body to make sure that all of the sheet metal would be laser straight all the way around the truck, and that all body panels & gaps were perfectly aligned. The final result is nothing short of spectacular! The truck was then finished in a deep gloss black paint, which was buffed & polished to a mirror-like shine. The bodywork & paint is simply as good as it gets, period! All brand new tinted glass was installed all the way around, and is absolutely flawless. The original bumpers were sectioned, shortened and completely re-chromed for a clean custom look. The grill was completely re-chromed, and new chrome foldaway mirrors & chrome side steps were installed as well. New HID headlamps were also added out front. The truck bed was finished in beautiful hand-stained oak w/ polished stainless steel slats, which looks absolutely gorgeous. The original frame was completely blasted & powder coated, and every single component from front to back is either brand new or completely rebuilt, including all new suspension, brakes, idler arms, shocks, springs, steering, etc., and both of the Dana differentials, transfer case, etc., were completely rebuilt as well. They decided on a 3" body-lift, which made everything look just right. This bad-boy sits on 15" Mickey Thompson Classic III Polished Aluminum Wheels wrapped w/ (4) Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain tires (33x13.50 R15). You can walk around this big truck a hundred times and it looks absolutely perfect from every angle. Underneath, all brand new components were installed, including Pro Comp ES3000 shocks, new leaf springs, new steering box, new driveshaft, front disc brakes, new fuel cell w/ electric fuel pump, etc., and all new stainless bolts & hardware were used throughout. A new 2.5" stainless steel exhaust system w/ a Magnaflow muffler was installed, which sounds excellent (please look at the undercarriage photos to see how nicely everything was done). Eric Thorsen Custom Upholstery designed the custom black leather interior, featuring a foam-shaped custom one-piece black leather dash w/ body colored insert, full set of black & silver Auto Meter gauges, black suede headliner, custom body colored lower dash w/ a Kenwood DNX5140 6.1" Navigation w/ USB / iPod Direct Control / Bluetooth / DVD Receiver (molded in the dash) w/ back-up camera, tilt steering column w/ leather wrapped billet steering wheel, custom leather door panels w/ molded in Pioneer speakers, Vintage Air Conditioning & Heat, billet AC vents, etc. This custom interior is not just aesthetically gorgeous, but it is also extremely comfortable and highly functional. Inside the beautifully detailed engine bay resides the completely rebuilt 360ci motor w/ all brand new internal components throughout including new pistons, Comp cam, springs, rockers, valves, etc., again everything was brand new w/ no used parts whatsoever. Other features include: black finned Mopar Performance valve covers, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, March serpentine system, MSD Atomic 2910 EFI throttle body (includes: Power Module, Wide-Band 02 Sensor, harnesses & Handheld Programmer), custom black headers, Ron Davis aluminum radiator w/ dual spal fans, all new American Autowire throughout, etc. The motor is linked to the completely rebuilt A-727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, which feeds power to the completely rebuilt Dana differentials. She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs, drives and performs beautifully in every way. If you don't like lots of attention, then this truck is certainly not for you. I took it to the local Starbucks and within a few minutes there was a huge crowd gathered around the truck, asking questions and throwing compliments. There are thousands of vintage Ford & Chevrolet pickups everywhere you look, but how many classic Dodge 4x4 Pickups have you seen around lately, especially a nut & bolt restored example such as this? With only 1,965 miles driven since completion of the build, this amazing 1979 Dodge Power Wagon 4x4 Pickup has just started its life. Whether you are looking for a classic 4x4 pickup that will take home 'First Place' awards @ any national level automotive event, or a truck that you can drive & enjoy fully without worrying about reliability, this is the truck for you!
