Description for Dodge Dart 1970

This 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 4 Speed is special. It was ordered with the right options from the very beginning. These original options include the 340 V8 High-Performance engine (E55), dual exhaust (N41), A833 4-Speed Transmission (D21), 8 3/4 Rear End (D53), Top Banana/Lemon Twist high impact yellow paint (FY1), performance hood treatment with hood tie-down pins (J45) and the Rallye Instrument Cluster with 150 MPH Speedo and 6K RPM Tach (A62). This is not a converted Slant-Six car that has had everything from the door handles down replaced. A true H Code car confirmed by both the fender tag and Broadcast Sheet (included with the car). This car has had 2 owners in the last 35 years and the same owner for the last 21 years.
Details

Engine:

The original 340 block was replaced by the previous owner in the later 80's with a correct 340 from a 1970 'Cuda. Fast forward 20 years and the 340 needed more to match the look of this car. The engine was professionally blueprinted and balanced by the experts at HP Engines less than 6K miles ago. It was assembled with a grocery list of top shelf speed parts. 10.5:1 Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, Eagle Forged H-Beam connecting rods, ARP main studs, Milodon 7-quart oil pan, Hughes Engines fully ported heads and port matched to intake, Stainless valves (2.06" Intake), Hughes Engines .571/.576 lift 286/290 duration solid lifter camshaft, aluminum 1.6 ratio roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake, Holley carburetor, MSD Blaster 2 coil and Electronic ignition controlled by a vintage MSD 6T box and MSD Soft Touch rev limiter.

Performance:

This 340 V8 small block dished out 451 horses and 413 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane pump gas on the engine dyno.

Exhaust:

Complete TTI 3" exhaust system and full length TTI headers with Dynomax mufflers provide that true Muscle Car rumble. Crack the throttle and this car means business.

Transmission & Clutch:

The rebuilt A833 four-speed transmission with Hurst shifter lets you row through the gears manually as a Mopar A-Body muscle car should. The Lakewood scattershield gives you piece of mind containing the aluminum flywheel and Centerforce clutch.

Differential:

The 489 case Sure Grip 8 ¾" rear end outback was expertly assembled by the differential masters at ProGear and filled with 3.91 gears, a Mark Williams carrier cap and pinion snubber.

Suspension:

With sub-frame connectors, Competition Engineering gas shocks, Super Stock springs, all new front end bushings and ball joints, this Swinger handles better than new and launches straight.

Brakes:

The famous 4-piston Kelsey-Hayes manual disc brake setup up front and drums in the back handle the stopping power and have all been properly maintained.

Wheels:

Keeping with the great original looks of this Dart, 14-inch Mopar Rallye wheels with caps and trim rings add to the factoy muscle car look. The rears have been widened to accommodate larger tires for the standard Muscle Car requirement. Not to mention, they help give this car a seriously mean meaty look from the rear.

Rubber:

Mickey Thompson Indy Profile G60-14 provide the hook-up duties out back and definitely fill the wheel wells, while Goodyear Viva 205/70R14 up front finish the "big-n-littles" stance of this Swinger with attitude.

Body:

Luckily, this car has lived the pampered Southern California lifestyle. No modifications or repairs needed. Sheet metal is all original and has never needed any replacement.

Paint:

The car was resprayed in the original FY1 Top Banana yellow with painted Bumble Bee (Booty) Stripe. To help give this Dart a meaner looker from the rear, the massive chrome rear bumper has been painted body color. The car was resprayed more than 15 years ago, and now shows some chips, a minor crack or two and a few isolated areas of bubbling that have just started to emerge.

Interior:

The interior remains mostly stock with the package tray, carpets, and seat covers having all been replaced. A brand new headliner is included but not yet installed. Autometer oil pressure and temperature gauges monitor engine vitals while the tach and shift light help you keep tabs on the rpms as they scream by.

1970 was the pinnacle year for Dodge Division's Scat Pack performance car line up and nothing lived up to the billing better than the 340 Dart Swinger. Notable options for the Scat Pack dream include; high compression LA 340 engine, Hurst 4 speed, 8.75" axle, in-dash 6K tach, Disc brakes, Rallye suspension and desirable High Impact FY1 Top Banana yellow exterior color to name a few.

Are you a Mopar Fan? Do you crave a Muscle Car that you do not see at every show? This Dart Swinger would be the perfect fit for you! Clean doesn't begin to describe how nice this vehicle is. If you are a serious about acquiring a classic Muscle Car, this is one you will not want to miss. The 1970 Dart is an iconic muscle car and this particular example is mechanically sound, has no rust to speak of and has been well cared for. Again, do not let the opportunity to own this car pass you by. Mopar fans will fall in love with this A-Body when you see it! After all, the dual hood scoops with 340 call-outs and rear racing stripe package really announce this is a muscle Mopar. Of course, the Top Banana Yellow High Impact Color also helps. 1970 was a great year because it was before federal regulation started to dictate later designs. The front end is far smoother and looks classically attractive. And in the rear, you have a great design that integrates into the body and even carries the taillights. 1970 was the last stand for the high compression 340 Dart Swinger before performance ratings fell through the floor, so don't miss this opportunity to own one of the hottest commodities in the current muscle car marketplace, the 1970 340 Dart Swinger 4-Speed. An excellent addition to any Mopar performance or Muscle Car collection for the serious buyer.
