Description for Dodge Charger 1968
For Sale on Ebay, is my 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. This car has been restored to as close to a new Charger as you will find anywhere. What sets this Charger R/T a part from what you will find here on ebay or any other website, is this car is a numbers matching 440 car. 1968 Chargers are the hardest 2nd Gen. Charger to find with its original drivetrain of the 3 years and the most sought after. There has been 0 for sale in the past 6 months here on eBay. The car retains ALL of its original body panels and has no rust. This may be one of the last vinyl top 68’s you will find with all of its original panels and numbers matching. When is the last time you saw a Charger with a vinyl top that has never had any work done to the rear window channel area? Or one that didn’t have a bunch of bad fitting aftermarket metal hanging off of it? The car is still has its original fender tag and all body numbers match. The only thing that was never found was the broadcast sheet. The car is an original 440 ( XS29L8B*******) Automatic car with A/C, AM radio, console/buckets, SS1 yellow paint, black top, black stripe, wheel lip mouldings, Redline Magnum 500 wheels. Everything was put back how the car came originally. The car was parked in 1980 with 42,650 miles on the clock and that is where it sat in storage until 1996, where it was pulled apart for restoration. The car remained apart until 2018. This car was completely stripped, blasted and started from a bare shell. This is a central California car, bought and kept for most of its years in Fresno. Restoration was done in 2018 and has about 60 miles on it since completed. There are 3 things that were changed from originality and that was disc brakes, classic air a/c (perfect fit) and electronic ignition. Car will come with the original brakes and a/c. This car was built to be enjoyed and these 3 things were a must. There will be a lot of info on the car so please read through it all to get an idea of how much was done to the car. This is an investment grade car and will always hold its value and increase over the years due to its original body and drivetrain.
The car is being set on a No Reserve auction. No games, no B.S., just bid what you can afford and the winner drives it away. Do your research, the cheapest numbers matching 440 R/T 1968 Charger is over 110k listed in Hemmings, the other is 165k.These cars are expensive to buy and restore as they just dont come up for sale often. To find a rust free R/T with its original drivetrain is even tougher.Look around and you will see tha, its rare to find one pop up for sale between Hemmings, carsonline, auto trader, online mopar pages and eBay. Add to the fact that even those two cars have had metal replacement that I did find for sale. Bring your magnets, bring your inspections, you have 10 days to view the car. Nothing to hide, the car is exactly what it is, a numbers matching Charger R/T with its original body panels. I encourage people to check out behind the rear window from the trunk area to show the original metal in mint condition.I've included over 100 photos below to check out.
Body- The body has been blasted and has only ever had one paint job, the original paint. It now wears its 2nd paint job, the original SS1, yellow paint. Body has all of its original panels and has VERY little filler in the body as hit only had a couple of minor dents and some typical dings. This car had not been on the road for so long, and had been stored in a dry storage that it didn’t incur the typical 50 years of abuse/damage or neglect in the elements. The body was painted completely inside and out in the original color to ensure all the panels were covered to help thwart any rust in the future. The paint is a 2 stage base/clear in the original 1968 SS1 yellow color. The original floor pans are as nice as the day it rolled off the factory. Scroll below to see the floor pans. The trunk pan does show some Light pitting from the years, but there are no holes and it is not nearly severe enough to replace. It is very solid and hard to see the light pits. Yes it still retains even the original front and rear valances, lower quarters, etc. Rust free Chargers are nearly obsolete.
Engine- The engine is its original engine to the car and has been fully rebuilt and is now .30 over. Yes it is a D HP 440 and yes the vin numbers are on the top of the backside of the motor (next to sending unit) It was a complete new stock rebuild. The engine retains its original carburetor, a/c brackets, HP exhaust manifolds, intake manifol, valve covers and pulleys. The original carb. Was sent out to be rebuilt. The engine was detailed exactly how it would have came from the factory, minus the sloppy overspray. You can add that if you would like but I wanted the car the way it would have been if Dodge had more time to crank these out. As many of the correct accessories were put back how they were found and are all new. Motor has 60lbs of oil pressure and runs great.
Transmission- Original to the car and fully rebuilt automatic. The original converter was sent out to be rebuilt. Transmission shifts great and has all of its original kickdown linkage attached.
Driveline- Original to the car, sent out to have joints replaced, speed balanced.
Rear end- Original 8 ¾ rear with 3.23 suregrip. Both are original to the car and have never been messed with.
Brakes- Originally a 4 wheel drum brake car. The fronts were changed to disc brakes. The car will come with the original drum brakes and spindles if you would like to have them. Rears are drum. All of the brakes and hardware, along with brakes lines (hard and soft) are all new. The entire system is new and the car brakes very well for a 1968 Car.
Wheels- Car originally came with 14x7 Magnum 500 wheels from the factory and I have (2) of them. At some point the other two were lost. So one of the original wheels is now the spare tire in the trunk. The wheels on the car are Wheel Vintiques 15x7 Magnum 500 wheels with BFG Silvertown Redline tires. Everything is new. In the trunk you will find the original wheel with a redline tire spare that is also new.
Jack Assembly- The original bumper jack was sent out and restored. It is complete with tire iron, base and jack with a new spring to hold it in its correct place. The trunk is exactly how it would have came from the factory upon purchase.
Grille- The grille has been fully restored by GSW Restorations. The grille is a work of art and is perfect in every way. Works exactly as it should. All of the grille components were restored to perfection and detailed correctly. New grille harness and vacuum line kit. This was a very expensive part to have restored as you see it now.
Lights- Tail lights are restored, new marker lights, and all of the bulbs in the car were replaced. Park light lenses are new, dome lamp lens is new. Every last thing in the car works as it should and every light works as it should.
Radio- Has the original AM radio that was sent out and restored. Works perfect! I also sent out the original center speak to have restored so that somebody could listen to some oldies or the ball game if they wish.
A/C System- A/C car originally but I found it to be very inefficient in 105 degree temps here in sacramento. It was replaced with Classic Air perfect fit system. Absolutely nothing was cut to make this fit. It fits in all of its original holes. It was a perfect kit for what I wanted. The car blows COOOOOLD A/C and HOT heat. Its fully electronic and it blows like a new car would. You can have all of its original A/c parts if you desire them. Once you push the a/c button down and your freezing in 105 degrees you wont think twice about putting the old stuff back. Everything in the A/C system is brand new.
Dash- The dash was completely restored with new gauges and bezels. They all work perfectly!Still retains the original uncracked dash pad! Inside storage for all these years allowed me to reuse the original dash pad, upper door pads and lower dash pads. New glove box liner, new ignition, New dash harness. Original uncracked steering wheel as well.
Interior- New seat covers, door panels, vinyl top, headliner, package tray, trunk divide, carpet and jute padding. New seat belts and Charger R/T floor mats as well.
Radiator- Original radiator and fan shroud are still on the car. Radiator was sent out to have high efficiency cooling fins installed. Has correct mopar upper and lower hoses, heater hoses, with mopar part numbers. Has a new clutch fan as well. Car stays cool and does not overheat.
Suspension- Completely rebuilt front and rear suspension and bushings. Detailed how it was found as close as possible. It is very clean underneath.
Exhaust- Has complete Accurate exhaust all new with new pipes, mufflers, clamps, exhaust tips and hardware.
Misc. - So much is new it will be hard to list everything so please see the pictures. Some of the things that are new are windshield wiper bottle and lines, wiper motor, battery cables, engine accessories, wheel lip mouldings, bumpers, vinyl top mouldings, correct mopar battery, and hold downs. New hood turn signals. The list goes on.The car was completely disassembled so every bolt has been off the car at some point and everything on the car has had attention.
In closing, there has been a lot done to the car as you can see and a lot of time/money and effort. This car would cost you over 6 figures to buy and restore.Everything on this car works as it should which is no small feat. I will include a lot of pictures and some of how the car progressed during the restoration. A lot of its original components are still on the car. Again, I encourage you to find a true numbers matching 1968 Charger R/T so that you can understand how hard it is to find one these days. This was my dream car but my wife and I have changed directions in life and we are planning a move to the coast. I will not have an adequate space to keep the Charger preserved, so I am selling the car. Again, No reserve auction!! Bid to win. DO NOT bid more than you can afford. I plan to list this car once and hope that people understand that I’m running a real auction and its not a game to bid and win, and not follow through. I’m giving you a real auction, just be responsible is all I ask. The car is actively for sale.
All qualified buyers are welcome. Overseas as well. Buyer to pay $1000 NON refundable deposit within 48 hours of auctions close. Balance due within 5 days of auctions close. Non negotiable unless agreed upon before auction closes. This is a private party sale, which means you are buying the car as is, where is, from my residence. I am not a dealer or collector and there is no additional fees on my end. You will get a bill of sale, the clear title in my name and any reasonable help to get the car to you, including obtaining shipping quotes, help to load on a trailer or transport, and coordinating with pick up of vehicle. It’s a 1968 vehicle, so obviously there is no warranties of any kind. There will be no allowances set aside. Please do your research and due diligence. You have 10 days to view the car or hire an inspection. This is fine with me, just make sure it is set up before auction closes, as once the auction is over, it will be the high bidders vehicle. This vehicle will be sold at fair market value, whatever that is, to be set by the bidders on this auction. If you are the high bidder at the end of the auction, I will honor the price it ends at.The car will need to be paid with bank wire transfer, cash or a cashiers check. I will hold the car until the cashiers check clears.I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, should the car sell prior to auctions end. The car will be actively for sale and may be listed elsewhere as well. This is a 50 year old vehicle and is not a new vehicle. Although the car has been restored, it still drives and functions as it did in 1968, which is outdated by todays standards. If you are expecting a new car, this car is not for you. If you enjoy the old car look and feel and a nice rumble and dont mind the tinkering that an old car requires, then you understand ownership of a classic car. I am in no way saying this car is a perfect car. I dont believe they exist. It is however, a very nice example of a 1968 Charger R/T numbers matching, original body car. Any questions, on any of this, please do not hesitate to ask. I am as straight forward as it gets and will answer any of your questions to the best of my ability. Thank you for reading through everything and Happy Bidding!!!
