The car was built in Los Angeles Ca and delivered to Empire Motors in San Bernardino on 3-19-63The dealership converted this 318 car into a Max Wedge placed it in their show room. and sold it to Frank Bailey of Bakersfield. CA. Shortly after the purchase. Frank had the engine built by Dick Landy and then rebuilt again in 2009 by HL Shanhan who installed . 80 thick head gaskets to lower the compression so it can run on high octane pump gas. HL Shahans idea on lowering the compression was to make it street legal so Frank can enjoy driving it on public streets unfortunatly Frank became ill and passed away. He never got that chance. The engine numbers are426= DISPLACEMENTT= YEAR CODE FOR 1963MP= MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE (ONLY THE MAX WEDGE GOT THIS DESIGNATION)HC= HIGH COMPRESSION (IN ’63 THIS WAS 13. 5 TO 1)DATE 10-16-62The car:Vin # 6135145933Universal Tire Co tires on front. mounted on Radir aluminum WheelsFirestone Dragster Gum Dipped tires on rear. mounted on steel wheels. Dealer painted stripe. "I purchased the car from his son. Frank Bailey Jr. a couple of years ago. When I first laid eyes on it I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. The tires were flat and it hadn’t been running in years. Stuff was stacked on top of it and the batteries were shot. We bought some batteries. put some fuel in it and it fired right up. The only exhaust on the car are the fender well headers and it roars!!!I purchased the car at that point and the son promised that he would ship all the paperwork to me. which he never did. Fast forward to the Spring Fling last April. I put the car on display and went looking for parts. When I returned an older gentleman was looking at the car. As we spoke he became very emotional and told me that he had gone to Empire Dodge in 1963 when his brother purchased the car and told me the history of the vehicle. He also had a Max Wedge and they raced at Fomosa for decades. In the early 2000s the engine was overhauled and Frank had 80 thousands head gaskets installed so he could run it on pump gas. He put on disc brakes and line locks and at some point electronic ignition. At one of the races they went to. someone stole one of the original carbs so they replace both of them". Request a link to the story of this car. as told by Bobby Bailey. who accompanied his brother Frank. in the purchase of this car from the dealer in 1963. This car is the real deal. one of a kind. ready to take to a show or add to your collection. Ted Moser President of Picture Car Warehouse loves and collects Mopars. He is the second owner of this car and never used it in any movie or never drove it on public streets. Ted had professional photographer Dave Severin photograph this car in Frank Bailey's garage for documentation value. **Correction in Mopar Magazine Article: This car was bought new in 1963 right off the Dealers Show Room Floor as a Dealer Equiped Race Ready Max Wedge Car. https://www. youtube. com/v/dUubiG8WXvE?fs=1&hl=en_US Additional PhotosOriginal dealer painted stripeDash is all original 1. 82 milesoriginal upholsteryoriginal upholsterysun blisterpanel replaceableHeadliner in excellent shapeOriginal floor matEngine originally built by Dick Landy Engine rebuilt by HL Shahan and added . 80 thick gasket Note all engine stampingsIntake Manifold numbersAbsolutely no rust in trunk. ust areas where paint flaked and exposed the bare metal Trunk mounted batteriesNo usual rust hereoriginal panelsRust free 1/4 panel wellRust free 1/4 panel wellno rustAll door jambs are rust freeDoor hinges are not sagging no rustVin numberFirestone Dragster Gum Dipped tires Universal Tire Co tires on front. mounted on Radir aluminum WheelsNo rust in trunk jamb gullyAll original parts & nothing bent or scrapedUnder carriage in excellent original condition no rustNo RustNo rustOriginal Pink SlipEngine casting numbersEngine casting numbersBuild sheet decoded by Chrysler HistoricalOriginal Photo By Dave SeverinOriginal photo by Dave SeverinMopar Collectors Guide 2/14/2014 Photo By David SeverinMopar Collector Guide Photo by Dave Severin 2/2014Original Photo by Dave Severin 2/2014 Warranty InformationThis vehicle is being sold as is. where is with no warranty. expressed written or implied.
