Description for Dodge Charger 1967

OVERVIEW:This is a nicely restored 1967 Dodge Charger 440 Magnum 2-Door Hardtop Sports Coupe. It is in the possession of its original owner who still has the original bill of sale listing what options it was ordered with on Oct. 14, 1966. Its build was completed at the Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan, USA, on Nov. 28, and delivered to him on Dec. 12, 1966.

It came equipped with a 375 hp. 440 ci. Magnum RB high performance 4 bbl. engine, mated to an automatic transmission with floor shifter, and today shows just over 96,000 original miles.

It was sold new in Champion, Alberta, Canada by Harris Motors, who had it brought over from another authorized dealer, Rae Motors of Picture Butte, Alberta. It has spent its life in the dry climate of southern Alberta, and has never suffered the ravages of winter, salted roads, or severe rust.It remains true to its original configuration with the exception of the owner choosing a color change at time of restoration, a shift kit for the transmission, and larger 15” wheels and tires.

This car is very clean and tidy top to bottom. It is a very solid car which was treated to a professional quality restoration by a very reputable shop, and was awarded a 1st Place at the 2017 World of Wheels in Calgary, Alberta.

It is an absolute head turner where ever it rolls, and it shows very well. This listing provides many more details as you scroll thru. Near the end of this listing under Payment Terms you will find a link to a photo album of over 220 pictures.

DRIVETRAIN:Stamping at the front of the block confirms the 1967 440 ci. Magnum High Performance RB engine, which was rated at 375 hp. and 480 lb-ft. of torque. The engine has been professionally rebuilt and is fueled by a single 4 bbl. carb.

The engine starts easily, is smooth running, and sounds very good with no unusual noises. The engine compartment is extremely clean, tidy, and nicely detailed. The owner ran out of gas while returning home from an out of town cruise last year. He called upon a nearby friend who came to the rescue with some gas, and while priming the carb a fire flashed up and was quickly put out, but resulted in the minor paint burn evident on the intake manifold next to the carb. There was no other damage or problem.

The 26” High Capacity Mopar radiator top tank is very nice and dent free. All other components on and around the engine appear as original equipment, operate as required, and are nicely detailed.

The owner took a training course on automatic transmissions and rebuilt a correct Chrysler 727 automatic transmission, added a shift kit, and then swapped out the tranny. It shifts as it should, but with a harder shift due to the kit.He retained the original 727 transmission and it can go with the car.

The rear differential has a 3.23:1 gear ratio and is original to the car.The undersides of the engine, tranny and rear end are amazingly dry and show no evidence of any notable leaks beyond the usual sweat drip.

CHASSIS:The original undercarriage is absolutely solid, as are all body mounts, sub-frames, inner rockers, floor and trunk pans. Original bill of sale indicates the car was ordered with undercoating which obviously did its job.The chassis is overall very clean and detailed apart from minor road dust and dirt of its minimal miles since restoration. All appears as original equipment.NOS Mopar or quality aftermarket parts were exclusively used in the restoration of all mechanical components and systems.

The car came equipped with Power Steering and Brakes, and both systems are in very good condition.Aluminized Dual Exhaust System is in very good condition with nice Chrome Exhaust Tips.A new gas tank and sending unit were installed, the gas gauge remains a bit erratic.

The tires are a matched set of BF Goodrich P255/60R15 Radial T/A’s with excellent tread remaining. They are mounted on new mag wheels sporting Magnum 500 3-spoked center caps.

BODY & PAINT:There is no evidence of any prior body or collision damage anywhere on the car. No signs of body filler, rust issues, or paint blisters either. All indications are that this is a very solid and honest car that has never been abused or suffered the ravages of winters and salt.

The original fender data tag is shown but has not been put back in its place on the inner left fender. The owner hoped to have it restored or reproduced in order to match the condition of the rest of the car, the choice can now be left to the new owner.

The car was stripped to bare metal for proper refinishing. The majority of the restoration was professionally done by a reputable Alberta shop, Investment Vehicle Restorations, renowned for many award winning muscle car restorations in Alberta. Work was completed in 2016.The body and all sheet metal are very straight.Fit and gaps on all panels is very good.

The base/clear paint is excellent, retains a beautiful luster, is very smooth, and has not suffered any scratches, chips or dings.Originally ordered as Dark Copper Metallic, the owner elected to have the car refinished in this more appealing Wine Red which truly enhances the Charger body style.

INTERIOR:The white ‘sport’ interior is in great condition and very welcoming with its unique 4 bucket seat and dual console design. It has been fully refinished and appears fresh with original style materials and patterns. All seat covers, carpets, door and interior panels, visors and headliner are very nice, and it has Charger scripted floor mats front and rear.Original interior brightwork is in nice condition, and the brushed aluminum inserts on the doors and rear panels are very nice.Door sill plates in very nice condition, as are the pedal pads which show no wear.No cracks in the simulated woodgrain steering wheel.Beautiful dash pad is excellent.

There are very few interior flaws to be found. A few chips in the silver paint on the trim surrounding the radio, a couple of nicks in the vinyl on top of the rear center console, and a few chrome pits on the upper molding on the back side of the left rear bucket seat.

The windshield is excellent, and the car was factory ordered with tinted glass. No cracked glass anywhere, but the 2 door windows do have some etching and light scratches. The left rear quarter window also displays some scratches. All windows roll up and down no problem. The large rear window is in good condition, and there is a spare to go with the car.

New rubber weather-strips and seals throughout, although both doors are missing the small seal that mounts at the top of the rear jamb, and the access hole plug down below the latch. There is a jack with the car.The rearmost interior panel in the trunk could use respray as it is original and shows the scuffs and scratches of its life.

ELECTRICAL:New main wiring harness is in excellent condition and all electrical items are in working order except the glove box light switch is not hooked up, apparently just a simple oversight. The original AM Radio has been retrofitted to AM/FM with BlueTooth, that is the wire you see next to the console mounted clock which is in working condition.Wipers in working order, but turning off should be timed to coincide with park position.

Full gauge package includes a tachometer, and all instruments are very nice and in good order. The Chrysler Electroluminescence provides a beautiful and unique lighting effect be it day or night, having been professionally restored by an aviation electronics specialist.

The hide-away headlight system is in proper working order, as are all other lights and signals. These Chargers are equipped with front fender mounted gun sights which also serve as turn indicators. All plastic lenses are in good condition, including the unique full width tail light panels which display CHARGER lettering.

BRIGHTWORK:The car was ordered with optional bumper guards and a right door mirror. All exterior brightwork on the car is in very good to excellent condition. It is either new, restored and polished, re-chromed, or very good to excellent original, and in many cases it is difficult to tell which.Any pot metal chrome items such as door handles and rear view mirrors are very nice and free of blemishes or pits. Both bumpers are in excellent condition with beautiful chrome.Very nice grille and head lamp doors with no broken or bent ribs.

All beltline stainless trim, window and grille surround trim is in very nice condition with no dents or dings evident. The only one found anywhere is a small soft dent in the molding below the right grille, pointed out with a pen for size reference, easily repaired. Both rocker moldings are a bit wavy, but have great shine.

Mag wheels and center spinner caps are very nice. All emblems are also in very nice condition.

SUMMARY:Original Bill of Sale, Owner’s Manual and Chrysler Vehicle Identification card are included. The original transmission can go with the car if you want it.

In short, this nicely restored 1st generation Charger is a very complete, clean, straight, and solid example of a desirable Mopar muscle car. Very few of these Chargers came equipped with the Magnum 440, it is well above average in paint and most other regards, and is ready to show and go!There are no hidden secrets or horrors with this car.

If you are considering a high performance Mopar, this could be it!Having enjoyed the car for many years, and with a couple other projects he’d like to restore, the owner has decided to make this sweet ride available to its next caretaker. This example is being offered with a very reasonable reserve well below its restoration cost.
