Description for Dodge Challenger 1970
You don't see very many classic MoPar convertibles on the road and certainly far fewer dressed like this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T. When you factor in that it still features its original exterior and interior colors it stands in even rarer company - add to that a matching numbers 383 V8 and there's no doubt you're onto something truly special right here. Memorialized on the big screen and sought after by classic car aficionados for decades,... the first generation of Dodge Challengers like this '70 just flat out epitomizes the muscle car genre. That bright yellow shade it wears was fittingly named Top Banana when it left the showroom floor and, ornamented with the signature Bumble Bee stripes package, it's about as cool an example of the exterior styling of its era as you're likely to find. The paint was refreshed a while back and looks sharp - it's got a strong shine that really comes alive in the sunlight and those contrasting black decals running down the center of the hood and encircling the tail still retain their sharp edges. This is a very well-preserved classic in all respects - its front grille and headlight housings look very solid, the glass surrounding the cabin is nice and clear and, with just a bit of polishing, the remaining chrome will really shine. A power black convertible top stands by underneath its well-fitted tonneau cover and it rises into place without any issues and even sports a clear glass rear window. Climb inside and you'll be surrounded by a black vinyl interior that still sports its original color and is as chock full of vintage appeal as you could possibly want. Everything inside retains its factory look but is in very clean condition, including a very fresh dash pad up front and a pair of high backed bucket seats whose covers show no tears at all as they straddle a center console that offers some welcome lockable storage space and features a nicely applied woodgrain accent. You'll find the original AM radio still in place in the center of the dash, but there's also a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo on board to properly cater to your audio needs. This MoPar classic was already equipped with air conditioning when it left the factory - rare for a convertible in that era - and it remains properly plumbed and equipped with that feature, but the blower motor is inoperable and will need replacing to get back online. A look in the trunk reveals it is in very clean and solid condition and has a mat for a nice added touch. Everything's looking great under the hood, where the original 383 cubic inch Magnum engine sits in a very well-detailed engine compartment with its properly badged air cleaner, surrounded by components that look like they've recently been steam cleaned. The engine left the factory good for at least 330 horsepower and now with an added Edelbrock 4 barrel carb and, judging from the very pleasing lope you'll hear at idle - a lope that smooths right out upon acceleration - it's very likely that a performance cam has also been installed, so it's safe to say there will be plenty of power at your disposal. The Magnum powerplant teams with a 3-speed automatic Torqueflite transmission to make for a vintage drivetrain that's functioning in top form. Power steering and power brakes that position discs up front make this classic muscle car easy to navigate and stop as it cruises on a set of 15" stock Dodge wheels outfitted with Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires. Below, the undercarriage appears to be in very good condition. Rare to behold and an absolute blast to drive, this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is a definite "must see". Call today!
