Description for Dodge Daytona 1985

1985 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z
49629 actual miles. 2.2 L Turbo 3 speed automatic
Officially a 3 owner car but I just acquired the car from the second owner who had this for the past 15 years. He never drove the car and it sat in his garage and never even had a plate on it. I purchased the car with the intent of giving it to my son for his 16th birthday but he wanted something newer with 4 doors. I know very little about this car as it has sat in my garage for the past few months since I've owned it. I drove this car for one mile to my house when I purchased it and it felt good on the road. I will list the items below that I know are issues either that I was told about or I've come to realize since I've owned the car.
- Original paint car. Was told this and no reason to not believe it. Hood has issues on leading edge and rear. These are captured in the photos. Paint looks real nice but this is a 33 year old vehicle so there are imperfections as expected. No rust on body otherwise. Wheel wells look perfect as well as under the doors. Doors open and close as you would expect for a low mileage vehicle. Door weatherstrips look like new.
- Interior seats/steering wheel look like new. Driver seat is power and while you can hear the motor make noise when you try to move the seat there is no movement. I believe the seat track has rusted not allowing movement. Power windows seem slow to go up. The center console looks way more worn than the rest of the interior. Not sure how this matches the rest but I want to share the actual condition. The rear hatch struts will not hold up the hatch. Very common on older cars. The sunshade looks mint and speaks to the minimal use of the trunk. I've not really used anything else in the interior to comment.
- Engine seems to be running rich and black smoke can be seen especially when cold. The engine shakes a bit when cold and smooths out once warmed up. (there is still shaking but less once up to temp) The car seems to run rough but it also seemed to drive fine for the few minutes I drove it. I would guess a tune up would go a long way as would a fresh tank of gas and some real miles to clear out the engine. Once warmed up I did notice the radiator did leak so this would need to be replaced before driving around. The 3 speed seemed to shift fine when I drove it but again I drove it for only 1 mile to my house when I purchased the vehicle.
-Undercarriage has a couple of spots that need attention. Common on these cars and even though this sat in a garage for many years there are a few area that need to be patched - under the drivers seat as well as the passenger seat. These spots are not big as the pictures indicate. The drivers side has also caused the front seat mount to be broken so the seat will rock back inside. The third area is under the spare tire holder in the back. Other than these spots the rest all look very solid.
Couple of other things I've noticed - brakes are real soft and I've noticed fluid leaking from under the car. It looks like there is a leak from the passenger side rear line under the gas tank. Car will stop but fine in driveway but I wouldn't trust this for the road. This wasn't an issue when I drove the car home but it seems the new activity using the brakes has caused this issue.Front tires lose air over about 2 weeks. Rears hold good. Tires all appear to be new also. The battery loses charge over time. I've kept a battery tender on it and it has worked fine with this method. Again I'm sure there are other items as this car is older and needs to be gone over. I wouldn't recommend driving the car a good distanceuntil it is sorted out. The car has sat too long to not be given a good looking over to ensure safety to you and others on the road. There is no warranty implied or expressed obviouslywith this vehicle.
Payment will be required in full 3 days after the auction ends and will need to be picked up within the next 7 days. The car will sit in my garage until a pick up is arranged. I work out of town and seeing the vehicle prior to the auction end date might be possible- message me to arrange.
