Description for Dodge Regent Sedan 1956
1956 Dodge Regent Sedan
Sold on a Bill of Sale Only. It does not have a title.
The Dodge Regent is an automobile that was built by Dodge Canada. The low-priced line built with a front end similar to the U.S. market Dodge attached to a Plymouth body. The first Dodge Regent appeared for 1951, basically a Plymouth Cranbrook, and replaced the Special DeLuxe name used from 1942 through 1950. As with all Canadian Plymouths and Dodges from 1938 to 1959, the Dodge Regent used Chrysler big block flathead inline-six engines.
For consignment a Regent Sedan produced in Canada. It is a Plymouth Savoy with a Dodge front clip. With original paint and chrome, this car shows nicely in all its patina glory.
Exterior
Patina Black panels attached to the frame appear fairly straight and have some gap issues as to alignment. Paint is faded, chrome is in fair to good condition overall. Upfront a large "winglike" ornament sits atop the entire front of the hood and has 2 protrusions attached. Moving downward we note more chrome on the two-tiered bumper/grille and headlight bezels. Moving to the back we have a large trim spear that runs from the grille to the end of the front doors. Keeping in the 1950's theme, large tail fins hold vertical brake lights, not unlike the look of the 1957 Chevy. Another big bumper backs this up underneath and shows in good condition. Standard steel polished wheel covers are on all 4 corners.
Interior
A pop of the doors and we are met by two tone light and dark gray door panels which hang a bit loose. Rockers show surface rust on our way inside. Taking a seat on the large front bench which has the back and tops of the backs restored in two tone gray vinyl. The remainder of the front seat, and rear bench are unrestored, and have several areas where upholstery is dry rotted away. A metal two tone dark and light gray dash hangs in front of the bench and shows areas of wear and dirt smudges. It is the original dash however, and a push button transmission actuator is mounted to the A pillar. The floor is rubber matting and is in black and in fair condition. Noted also is the original steering wheel and column.
Drivetrain
A 250.6ci Inline 6-cylinder sits in an unrestored engine bay. Plenty of surface rust and corrosion abound under the hood. Attached to the back of the engine is a Powerflite 2-speed push button automatic transmission. On the top the mill we note a 1-barrel carburetor.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust under here, in particular the rockers where we notice rust through on the body and heavy surface rust on the frame. Other steel parts underneath are clean...some covered in surface rust, in particular on suspension parts.
A classic Canadian built Dodge, with some work to do, and some TLC to take from its new owner. This car runs, all be it rough. A time well spent project car, AKA Barn find.
