We have a similar version at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. These Ram trucks are increasingly tough to find, and can now be considered a rare, collectible vintage pick up truck. This color contrast makes the MACHO Ram truck stick out like chest hair from a late 1970s leisure suit. You don’t need to grunt, your vintage truck will do it for you!By the late 1970s, the pickup truck market had done a complete U-turn from its original duties as farm and work truck to becoming personal lifestyle vehicles, as were their companion customized vans. Nowhere was that more evident than in Dodge’s line of “Adult Toys†trucks and vans, one of which was this 1979 Macho Power Wagon 150 4x4 Longbed. Made in Chrysler’s Warren Truck Plant #1, in Warren, Michigan, this example is finished in white (code PY1417) with the appropriate Power Wagon graphics, stripes and factory, period-specific steel wagon wheels. With yellow decal stripes, Macho packages offered eight special body colors, as well as black low-gloss hood, cab roof and lower body panels. The truck’s paint and trim are in overall very good order. The truck’s conventional cab and Sweptline bed is straight and solid though it lacks the bed-mounted factory roll bar. The chrome front bumper, with its matching overrider and a contrasting black, corrugated metal step bumper, are in very good shape. The engine bay is very tidy and the Super Start battery appears new. Out back is an older but very serviceable bedliner with corresponding graphics on the tailgate and there’s also a sliding rear window. The truck has a 131-inch wheelbase and a GVWR between 6,001 and 8,500 pounds. This Macho truck rolls on Prime Well PA100 light truck tires, size 31x10.50R15 at every corner. The tires are in very good order, with deep treads while the factory, steel wagon wheels evoke that ’70s look and are finished in an eye-catching orange and look great.Under the hood is Chrysler’s venerable 318 CID V-8 (VIN code E) engine breathing via dual exhausts, mated to Chrysler’s even more stalwart TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission mounted on the steering column. There’s also a two-speed transfer case with locking settings. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power brakes. The air conditioning is complete and functions but does not blow cold.Inside, the black interior with white trim is in mostly very good condition. The black vinyl bench seat and matching carpet look great. The white headliner and three-spoke steering wheel are in satisfactory shape, as are the inner door liners. The instrument panel with its full array of gauges look great, including a Pro Racing tachometer. Completing the interior is a Craig AM/FM stereo with cassette deck. For 1979, Dodge’s full-size pickup trucks gained a new front-end appearance – new hood, cowl top panel, grille and quad headlights on top-line models. Competition to this Dodge in 1979 included Chevrolet’s K10 half-ton, Ford’s “Free Wheeling†half-ton, GMC’s K10 half-ton and Jeep’s “Honcho†J10 half-ton truck. If you’re looking for a Disco Era pickup truck that will make people stare and ask questions, you wouldn’t go wrong with this Dodge Macho Power Wagon 150 4x4 at MotoeXotica Classic Cars.
