Description for Dodge Coronet 1956
I purchased this 1956 Dodge Coronet from a local gentleman who bought the car more than 30 years ago in hopes of restoring it back to it's former glory, unfortunately that never happened. This Coronet has been off the road and stored inside his garage for decades. We pulled it out of hiding and cleaned it up a bit and got it running.
The car has the "Rare & Desirable" color combination of a Jewel Black Upper and an Aquamarine Lower. The body is complete with all of it's sheet metal, trim & glass. It is fairly clean and straight and not wrecked or missing parts. The hood, trunk & doors open, close & latch correctly. The clear window glass is original and in good condition including the front & back windows. However the drivers door glass is fogged around the edges and needs to be replaced. We removed the seats & floor mats for you to see the condition of the front, rear & trunk floor pans.
The 2-tone black & white vinyl & cloth interior is dried out, ripped & cracked but the seat frames & springs are clean & solid. The dashboard, gauges & steering wheel are in nice original condition and still has it's original AM radio with factory dual rear antenna's.
The frame is clean and straight having no rust thru or scale and appears to have never been wrecked, repaired or welded.
Under the hood rests a complete original 315 Red Ram Poly V-8 Engine connected to a 3-Speed Standard Shift Transmission. This was the largest engine that you could order in a 1956 Dodge that year and with 90% of production having automatic transmissions makes this 3-speed stick with the Super Red Ram Motor a rare combination.
I removed the thermostat, flushed out the motor & radiator and installed new hoses. I did an electrical tune up, had the starter & carburetor rebuilt and then disconnected the gas tank and attached an auxiliary tank. The motor started quickly, runs good and does not leak any fluids or overheat. However the entire exhaust system from the manifolds back was previously removed and the car now sounds loud and it does have some blow by mainly out of the right exhaust manifold. The car currently rolls, steers, runs and shifts through the gears but has no brakes. This Coronet is mostly complete from bumper to bumper with the exception of not having the outside rear view mirror and the drivers front inside door panel.
My last photo shows a pair of original fender skirts and a grouping of Schofield Auto Body Replacement Panels for the rear quarters that were purchased years ago to aid in the restoration of the car.
This Dodge 2-Door Hardtop is a great restoration project or will make a good start for a Rat Rod, Resto Mod or Custom Car.
