Description for Dodge Charger 1971
This is a True 1971 Dodge Charger Superbee. Only year for the Superbee on the Charger platform. This is a fairly rare and collectable car thats value is quickly rising. This is a Mans Car with luxury appointments. this car was strictly made to go from A-B and in a hurry!! Car and Driver "Car of the Year" for 1971. Originally it was equipped with a 383 Magnum backed by a 727 automatic. It was a stripped down Superbee and formidable in all the ways they were meant to be. This superbee is factory B5 Blue and is a great muscle-era Impact color. It has its original black interior complemented by a buddy seat (arm rest). There are no real rips or tears to speak of in the seats neither back or front. The carpet has been replaced with original style and is in great shape. Headliner is new and tight. The dash is looks amazing but has a cover on it. It was that way when I got it and it looks so nice I never bothered it. Car has its original factory "Buildsheet" found under the backseat. This car came factory with manual drum brakes. no power steering. its big 26" HD radiator. HD suspension and handling package. dual cut-out rear valence and exhaust tips. am radio. and wheel well trim as well as hood pins. It retains all of its original PPG Chrysler glass except the windshield which was replaced due to delamination and "whiting out. " Car has no A/c or other power robbers its a True Muscle Car. It has superb non-matching '70 440 steel crank motor that is a very nice. tight and well built power plant. it has a nice lopey cam that idles out well but still pounds the ground. Car has mounds of torque and runs great on 93 pump gas. It has great oil pressure and runs cool with the big thick radiator. Carb is an original unit rebuilt recently and runs out well but just needs to be driven more which is the main reason I am parting with it I simply dont have enough time to drive and enjoy it any more. I bought the car with this motor in it as well and do not know the specs but its one of the best running and least tempermental big block Mopars I have ever owned. The 727 Torqueflite has just been rebuilt to factory specs but with a little attention given to the torque converter to better accommodate the 440 and its torque. It shifts smooth and assuredly and has no ill sounds - Its all new throughout! Driveshaft has new u-joints and rear end serviced and lubed. The entire front suspension meaning all ball joints. bushings and bearings have been replaced with new in the past year. New starter. solenoid and alternator rebuilt. Brakes have been done all around in the last year as well. A set of oil pressure and temperature gauges were added under the dash for true read outs on top of factory gauges. Exhaust is in fine shape and has a great Mopar muscle tone to it. Car is well kept and always maintained as its a weekend cruiser and car show hopper and never raced or mistreated. The body on the car is in fine shape. It retains much of it original sheetmetal and in amazing southern fashion. Starting from the front it has its original fenders in great shape with no rot except on small spot beside hood. Bottoms are in good shape with no rust. Rockers are in great shape and straight as well and have no rot inside or out. The cowl is perfect and factory fresh and has never been tampered with. The specific Superbee hood is in fantastic shape as is the insert. The floor pan was replaced with a full one-piece replacement from AMD. The roof not being vinyl helped it stay in good shape. Trunk lid is in nice and the trunk floor has no patches and is all original and very solid as are the extensions. Lower quarters were replaced with metal and look very nice. The passenger wheel well has had some bondo in it but looks fine. Also the rear window has a small amount of rust on the passenger side lower edge about 1" between the moulding and is very easily accessible and easily addressed. The paint is a single stage acrylic enamel that was applied to look like original lacquer. It looks amazing and gets tons of compliments. It does have a couple blemishes as all do. No big chips. gouges or scrapes though. It shows well and holds it own very gracefully. It does have one burn spot on one of the fenders from a buffer. There is a small spot near the moulding of the back glass on the passenger side at the bottom as mentioned earlier. No big bubbles or too much trash just a really nice paint job. Bumpers were painted and are not the elastometric rubber ones. This is a stand out vehicle. between its stout stance. bustling motor and long sweeping lines only reminiscent of a Charger you cant help but look at this car! It commands a presence when it pulls up and has what it takes to back it up against anything you put it up against. Its a great cruiser and fashionable statement. It rides along effortlessly yet can turn into a monster at the drop of you ankle. This is a great addition to any collection or to be the cornerstone in its own garage! Richard Petty loves these cars and drove this same platform to 4 NASCAR Championships! It has been a great part of my collection but due to work and lack of time its time has come.
