Description for Edsel Corsair 1959
The Edsel wound up being the "wrong car at the wrong time." It's estimated that less than 10,000 have survived to today. The Edsel came about as a new car and a new division of Ford Motor Company fresh into the 1957 recession. They built 118,297 Edsels between the 1958 - 1960 model years, with only 44,891 of the 1959 models built for the US and 2,505 for Canada. By 1959 they were down to only the Louisville, KY plant producing them.Edsels were known for their trademark "horse collar" or "toilet seat" center grille, which was supposed to be distinctive, but perhaps worked against sales. We will be happy to take more pictures - if necessary - and can certainly arrange for you to see it in person. This is part of the Roger Bryden Collection. Roger would buy vehicles from his customers & friends when they didn't have a use for them, wanted to trade them in, couldn't drive anymore, or just plain needed money. Some had special meaning to Roger and others were just nice cars. He stored them in climate-controlled buildings, many were in the new car showroom from time-to-time. You may call Scott Bryden with questions at (608) 364-5922. We will do our best to answer them. Tax, Title, License, & DOC Fee of $169.99 may be required depending upon area being titled. We can perform sales tax, license, and titling services for Wisconsin & Illinois. Any other areas, it will be dependent upon the winning bidder to secure those fees and any import or export taxes charged by governing bodies. On Jun-11-17 at 12:39:04 PDT, seller added the following information:
I posted more pictures, some by request. I can't get to the car until Tuesday, 6/13/17, so maybe you can tell if it has power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning by looking at the under hood shots and dash pictures. :) IT MUST BE NOTED THE ODOMETER SAYS 03422. I tried not putting anything in the mileage box and eBay wouldn't allow it, so I filled in what I remembered. I can't change the basics of the listing now. I consistently made it clear I have no way of knowing if the mileage is actual. Showing 03422 makes it pretty obvious the mileage is not actual.
For not being restored, I believe this car is in great condition. Of note, in the new pictures, you can see the chrome/aluminum on the left rear quarter has been removed and reinstalled and wasn't done very well. The paint on the left rear quarter has a more dull finish than the rest of the car, although the color matches very closely. Also, the "Corsair" badge is missing on the left rear quarter, but is attached on the right rear (see pictures).
The top of the right rear quarter new the rear window (see picture) has a couple of paint bubbles. I'm not sure what in the world causes that, but those who know antique cars will probably know.
Someone asked me if the car is drive-able home. I told that person that after being stored since at least 2002 and probably before that, I wouldn't advise it. That being said, in 2002 it was driven to Bryden Ford as a trade-in and then driven 20 miles to it's current storage location. It was started and driven 1/4 quarter mile and back to our service center to have fluids checked and a new battery installed a couple of months ago.
I'm doing my best to help everyone get the right information. I am a new car dealer and generally don't deal in much older than 15 years. Cars almost 60 years old are not my thing. I want you to know what I know about all of the cars we are selling. Much of it is difficult to derive, since I'm not an expert on these. Thank you for you patience with me. :)
