Description for Ferrari Other 1969
SYMBOLIC MOTORS IS PROUD TO OFFER THIS STUNING 1969 FERRARI DINO 246GT PAINTED IN BLACK WITH A RED INTERIOR. CALL TODAY AT 858. 454. 1800!!!! Chassis number "*00508*" was the 50th of only 354 "L" model Dino GTs completed from March of 1969 to September of 1970 when standardized all steel body production of the "M" and later "E" model 246GT and GTS Dino's took place. The "L" model utilized the same unique early prototype-like interior of the 206GT with fixed seat head-rests mounted to the back bulkhead and a full length glove box door and a passenger footwell bar. The main changes from the all alloy bodied 206GT to the 246GT "L" model was the lengthening of the wheel-base as well as the adoption of a 2. 4 rather than the 2. 0-liter engine. Opening panels were still in alloy and the strikingly beautiful "knock-off" wheels were still utilized. The rear deck lid was also still opened by means of a push button rather than internal release lever. Numerous other small detail differences abound and as such. the 206GT and 246GT "L" variants are both extremely special and highly unique machines compared to the more than 3. 00 standard 246GT and GTS models built after September of 1970. Both the 206GT and transitional 246 GT "L" model were all still hand assembled and fantastically expensive to build. Not until the advent of the more standardized and mass production built "M" model did the Dino start making any money for Ferrari. This Dino was ordered up and sold new to prominent Italian lawyer. Dott. Pietro Micucci of via Thaon di Rivel 6 in Ancona. Italy. Construction began in early September of 1969 and upon completion. this vehicle was formally issued a "Certificato d'Origine" (Certificate of Origin) by Ferrari later that month. It was initially issued temporary registration in Bologna on September 7th. 1969 but this is likely a typo as as the 7th was a Sunday. The temporary registration was "BO69216. " 00508 was then invoiced new to Micucci on October 28th. 1969 and then on January 20th. 1970. Dott. Micucci road-registered his new Dino on Ancona plates "AN1316665" and was issued corresponding road registration documents and a new "Libretto. " 00508 remained road-registered in Ancona with Dott. Micucci until January 9th. 1972 when ownership and registration was assigned to new owner. Sig. Corrado Bilo who likewise resided in Ancona. The original Italian plates "AN131665" remained on this Dino when ownership again changed on April 6th. 1975. The new owner was another Ancona resident. Sig. Paolo Vitali. Vitali sold 00508 not long after his purchase and the Italian registration was then cancelled. By the end of the year in 1975. it was exported privately and imported to the States and registered shortly thereafter in Massachusetts and then later in New Hampshire. The original New England resident brought this Dino with him when he moved to nearby Epping. New Hampshire were it remained there off the road and awaiting restoration until 1980 when it was sold to David Feinberg another New Hampshire resident in the town of Bedford. The purchase and acquisition of this Dino by Feinberg was a life-changning experience for the young man. The Dino was completely disassembled and the restoration and re-assembly a herculean task. It would lead Feinberg onto becoming one of New England's eminent independent service and restoration facilities primarily for Ferraris but also various other makes. Today Feinberg owns and operates Ferrari Service of Bedford in Bedford New Hampshirewww. fluentinferrari. com and while his business has grown over the years. the roots of this successful establishment can largely be traced back to his love and passion for this particular Dino. 00508 would remain with Feinberg until being sold while nearly finished with the long-term restoration he started in 1981. It was sold in 1987 to Daniel "Dino" Loftus of Mount Morris. New York. The restoration by Feinberg was extremely comprehensive and thorough. The engine benefitted from new performance cam shafts and 10. 5:1. high-compression ARIAS alloy pistons which greatly improved performance. At the time of the sale to Loftus. this Dino had covered 34. 76 original kilometers. The last of the restoration continued under Loftus's care with the final work being finished in June of 1989. During the restoration this Dino was completely stripped and repainted black with a black and tan interior. With the decades-plus long restoration finally over. Loftus began to use and enjoy his Dino for the first time. Over the next three months. Loftus kept a journal documenting the break-in period of the vehicle at which time he put just over 800 kilometer on the car driving it around his home as well as into New York City on July 30th. 1989 where he showed it enthusiastically to some friends. By September 3rd. he had covered 1. 00 kilometers in the vehicle without any issues. At 2. 00 kilometers after the completion of the break-in period. he had David Feinberg complete a "big service" as well as adjust the valves and re-torque the heads. Loftus then put his prized Dino into long-term Winter storage until May 29th. 1990 when he put it back on the road and then drove the car to the Watkins Glenn Ferrari National Meet. Loftus's passion for his Dino and experience and enjoyment with it led him to open up a shop dedicated to the service. care and maintenance of Dino's and other Ferraris. He opened up his new facility near his home in Mt. Morris. New York and he gave it the simplistic name "The Dino Shop. " His own Dino and several other client's vehicles would thereafter receive the dedicated repair and work that he attended to on his own Dino. From that point on until he passed away Dan Loftus would be thereafter known as "Dino" rather than Dan Loftus. Loftus continued to enjoy his Dino for many. many more trouble free kilometers and by September the following year the odometer was now showing 56. 60 kilometers on the odometer. Loftus's journal entry records "1-year. boy it's great!" Many other journal entries over the next few years recorded similar enthusiastic comments with mileage notations documenting his continued use and enjoyment of the vehicle. On May 26th. 1995 with 61. 45 kilometers on the odometer. he wrote; "Absolutely the best yet! Perfect car. " His finally entry was on June 1st. 1995 with the odometer showing 61. 00 kilometers. The entry states that new plugs were installed on this date. New registration was issued to Loftus on September 13th. 1996 when he moved to Scottsville. New York. The license plates "B257VX" were recorded as being assigned to his Dino and they would remain there until he sold it nearly ten years later. No other entries are recorded by Loftus in his journal but he continued to drive it that Summer but on a much more limited basis. Loftus stored the Dino that Winter and took it out the following Spring for servicing and then limited use each Summer for the next ten years adding a total of only 2. 00 more kilometer to the odometer in that time-frame. Unfortunately. Loftus's health was deteriorating and he was less and less able to drive his Dino. In 2004. Loftus offered this Dino for sale. It was purchased that year by Dr. Chen "Jimmy K. " Shiba a prominent Dentist and Ferrari collector from Yokohama. Japan. At the time of his import and registration in 2005 to Japan. this vehicle had covered 64. 00 kilometers. Dr. Shiba enjoyed his new Dino enthusiastically over the next ten years covering some 15. 00 plus trouble-free kilometers in that time frame. A second full restoration was undertaken during his ownership at which time the black and tan interior was changed back to the original red however the exterior remained black. Dr. Shiba was very careful to save and organize all of the files. documents. records and invoices during his ownership of this Dino and they are contained in a large presentiment album for easy viewing. Several years ago Dr. Shiba inquired about realigning several vehicles in his collection. We were very fortunate to purchase his Ferrari Daytona but he steadfastly refused to sell this. his prized early "L" model Dino. Earlier this year. we began again to try and acquire this particular vehicle and eventually earlier this month succeeded. Today. chassis 00508 now has 80. 23 documented original kilometers on the odometer. Our pre-purchase inspection verified that both. engine. transaxle and body are original to the vehicle as well as confirming that while the restoration has held up well. the both the paint and chrome are now starting show their age with noticeable wear and imperfections throughout. A comprehensive mechanical evaluation has been undertaken with excellent compression readings on all cylinders. There is no smoke or ill-noises coming from the engine and the vehicle is both rust and accident free. Detailed ownership and service records as well as the original Italian "Libretto" or road-registration documents are still with the vehicle as are the original owners's manual and various other "glove compartment" items that are most always missing.
