Description for Fiat 850 1971

1971 FIAT 850 SPORT SPIDER BERTONE CONVERTIBLE.

Vintage and in great condition.VIN # Begins with 100GBS - Collector or hobbyist's dream for sure (Will be 50 Years Old Next Year!!!) . eBay limits me to 18 Images - if you have questions contact me on eBay and we'll go from there. This is for sale on eBay and has a low reserve and my terms are listed. Please do not waste my time with any low ball offers or if you can not actually purchase (happened last time I listed - a bit frustrating). I have been selling on eBay since it's inception, but took a break and lost all my status and history.....

Why am I selling?Good question. Don't really want to, but would really like someone else to enjoy this car and start a new chapter. My son is 6' 5" and has no interest....Whomever is the new owner a more detailed discussion can be had if desired. Good luck and happy bidding!!!

The car has not been started since 2005. It has been stored in my barn on custom (built by meLOL) rollers to move around when needed. It does roll on the actual tiresthough. Cool things: I have a lot of Manuals and books and a few original receipts, etc. Believe it or not (actually pictured) I have Two Sets of the original keys!!! Original FIAT Tool Kit and Spare Tire is there as well. One thing that has bugged me for many years is that the choke bracket broke, but I have the pieces, and all the extras you see in the pictures.

SHORT HISTORY: This 1971 fiat has been in my family since the mid-seventies when my father bought it in Clearwater, Florida from a student that attended University of South Florida. She was a member of a sorority there and a sticker is still on the front windshield (my Dad liked it....). Last time registered to drive in Florida was 1979 (See window sticker....). It was stored in my parents garage in Florida until 2002 when I picked it up in my enclosed trailer and transported back to Ohio.I spent a few bucks getting her running and drove the fall of 2003 for a total of under 300 miles. Last time I started her was in 2005 and then life caught up with me. It is on custom rollers in my barn and has never seen a winter. True "Barn Find!" . My mechanic says that it would not take much to get running, and those that know the car will know what to do. It is all original except for regular maintenance items. Sold AS Where Is - No Warranty.

FIAT 850 SPORT SPIDERBACKGROUND:

At the same time as the Coupé, Fiat also introduced theconvertiblesporty two-seaterSpider, with the original 843cc engine tuned to produce 49hp (37kW) which allowed it to reach a top speed of 145km/h (90mph). The body was designed and built byBertonein itsGrugliasco,Turinplant.[9]The folding fabric roof stowed under a rear metal body panel. The Bertone design featured smooth, simple lines and details, includingrecessed headlamps equipped with plexiglass covers angled to match the adjacent fenders/wings — and dihedral side panels similar to Bertone's 1963Chevrolet Testudo. Based on aChevrolet Corvairchassis and powertrain, this engine ran anti-clockwise, a unique feature compared to other engines. Engine code 100GS.000.

In 1968, Fiat revised the successful Spider and Coupé again and gave them an even stronger engine with 903 cc and 52hp (39kW). They were called Sport Spider (engine code 100GBS.000) and Sport Coupé (engine code 100GBC.000). The Sport Spider body stayed essentially the same, but with a restyled front. The headlamps were moved forward slightly and the glass covers were eliminated giving the car a"frog-eye" look, and the original flush front turn indicators were replaced with units hung below the bumper.Production of the Spiders ended in 1973. 140,000 Spiders were sold worldwide.
