Description for Ford F-100 1973
This is an AMAZING 1973 Ford Ranger F100 Pickup Truck with less than 73,000 actual miles (still driving so it might be just over by the end of auction)This was purchased new in Reno Nevada and owned by the same family since new. (Uncle bought it new and his niece inherited it from him) Been in thesame area all of these years. He worked for Ford and he loved this truck! You can tell by the great condition that he kept it in.
RUST FREE - (except from some surface rust under rear bumper, tc. - see pics)
I drove this from Reno, V to Prescott, rizona (750 miles) and it drove flawlessly, an nice and cool right through the middle of the desert including Death Valley!
Engine oil and filter were changed in Reno before the trip so it has about 2000 miles left until the next oil change.
Engine is very strong and transmission shifts nice and smooth like it should
Windows roll up and down nice.
All the rubber is in good shape on the doors, tc.
Tires are in decent shape with no dry rot.
The exterior has been repainted in the original color (but not exact) and it is showing some oxidation on the hood and roof of cab but I professionally detailedit and applied 2 coats of Zymol wax to protect it. The paint job is a 6.5 to 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. It's a good clean daily driver paint job but NOT show quality.
The body is very straight (couple of very small door type dings and one bad spot on the roof where some bondo was applied - SEE ROOF PIC)
It has Factory Air Conditioning but not sure if it works yet, cut the belt off before the trip to Arizona because it looked dry cracked. I have it at Advance AutoAir Conditioning in Prescott Valley, z to have them install a new belt and check the system. I will update this post as soon as I find out.
Power Steering, ower Brakes
5500 GVW Package
The last time I drove it to town to bring it to the air conditioning shop I felt like it was pulling to the right so it may need a front end alignment or it could havebeen a low tire, 'll check that also when I pick it up and update the listing.
Original PHILCO AM Radio and it still works!
Original seat is split on the driver side but the rest is in really good condition and a Nice Saddle Blanket Cover comes with the vehicle (Pics show with the coveron and off)
Has some oil on the bottom of the engine bay and not sure how long it's been there because it doesn't seem to leak a lot in the driveway.
Drives down the freeway at 70 to 75 mph with no shimmies or shakes
Heavy Duty Metal Camper on the back that I believe is made by ALASKAN Camper but not positive since I couldn't find a tag or label anywhere on it. It reallyworks great for traction in the back, 've taken this off road for a weekend camping trip and I was really impressed where this truck can go. (It rained hard duringour camping trip and we slept in the back with not one drop of rain coming in)
The suspension is nice and soft and has that wonderful ride quality that these mid-'70's Ford Trucks are known for. (That's why Sam Walton from Walmart/Sam'sClub owned one until he died and Forbes magazine had an article where they asked him - "Sam, ou're one the richest people in the world, hy do you drive a1974 Ford Pickup?" and his answer was simple - "Because I like it!"
The 360 c.i. V8 engine still has the ORIGINAL MOTORCRAFT 2-Barrel Carburetor on it! That being said it could probably use some adjustment as it is sometimesa bit difficult to start when it's cold. Most of the time it works well if I press the accelerator pedal to the floor 1 time and then don't touch it and it will go to a high idleand then after a couple of minutes I press the pedal again to bring the idle back to normal. It has a slight miss in it and I'm sure it's in the carb adjustment, 'm justnot very good with carbs - Sorry. Once it's warm it runs great so I believe it's an automatic choke adjustment that would help.
It only has 1 fuel tank in the rear, he front tank has been removed but the filler spout is still there.
All of the controls on the dash work nice and smooth like they should, o sticking.
All lights work including the interior dome light which I put an LED bulb so it's nice and bright & takes very little energy. It turns on when driver or passenger door is opened.

NOTE: Added the tailgate pics at very bottom (It's in great shape and still has the original paint & factory trim on it)
As of 9-4-15 I lowered the Buy it Now because the tires are old (Aug 2003), he battery is old (Aug 2003) and the muffler has a smallhole in it. Also the oil leaks are worse than I thought. --------------------------- We live on a ranch so I haven't noticed it but at the shopI took it to have the AC worked on there were several (7 or 8 drops) of oil on the ground below it. I haven't had to add any oil in the last 1000miles but it is definitely leaking around the valve covers so it will need gaskets there for sure. The carburetor will probably need a rebuildbecause the shop that looked at it said it is the original carb and it doesn't look like it has been rebuilt before. It will still drive across thecountry no problem but it will definitely run better with a cleaned out rebuilt carb. It's mostly noticeable at idle and low rpms and starting.
That being said this is avery nice truckthat willmake someone really happyand I'm sad that I can't keep it :(
Latest UPDATE 9-4-15: The A/C shop installed a New Belt, harged the system with Freon and performed 2 differentLeak Tests: ********** Air Conditioning is ICE COLD! No leaks were found. **************-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
