Description for Ford Thunderbird 1961
1961 Ford Thunderbird Indy 500 Festival Parade Car
This car was used at the Indy 500 50th Anniversary in 1961 and is gold-colored to commemorate that anniversary. There were 32 Festival Parade cars; this is one of 5 that are known to still exist. These cars were used for carrying track officials, rivers, heir wives, nd other celebrities in pre-race parades, isplays, nd ceremonial laps before and after the race.
The car's "torpedo shape" was brand new; it has sleek lines and a powerful 390 v-8, 00hp engine.
The car features bold black lettering on the door stating Official Car with a large red "500" below it. Beneath this is the word "Festival" in black script shadowed in white and small block letters "May 30, 961" in black, hadowed in white.
I've had this car since 1990; it was originally from Indianapolis. Since restoration, t has always been garaged.
This car has been featured by Don Kimrey, ASK the BIRD DOCTOR" in Kansas City and on automotivemillposts.com. This car was also featured in the 100th Anniversary of the Indy 500 Festival Parade (May 2011). Gary Brackett (linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts) rode in the parade in this car with me.
It was professionally appraised in October 2011; appraisal is available for you to look at.
There is a great deal of documentation for and about this vehicle; the documentation will be included with the sale of the car. Also included will be Indy memorabilia such as programs and pictures.
I am downsizing my Thunderbird collection, o my downsizing is your gain.
