Marti Report SELLER REMARKS The snarling. vicious pony cars of the Trans-Am series are finally getting their due. Cars like this 1970 Boss 302 are red-hot with collectors because everyone has discovered what Mustang fans have known for forty years: these cars are a blast to drive. If you haven't heard one of these deep-breathing small blocks ripping to 7000 RPM. you're missing out on one of the automotive kingdom's greatest treats. Here's your chance to join the party. Recently treated to a high-quality cut-and-buff. this Boss 302 is a Candyapple Red example of arguably the most perfectly balanced first-generation Mustang of them all. With styling details by the legendary Larry Shinoda. it was also one of the best-looking. with an aggressive racetrack look that translated extremely well to the street. And while it was originally Lime Metallic. nobody can argue that the bright red doesn't work at least as well on this aggressive fastback. The paint was done several years ago and we can find no traces of the original finish. so the color change was a very thorough professional job. The Boss included the blacked-out hood and side stripes. all of which have been accurately reproduced here. and it carries goodies like the chin spoiler. deck lid wing. and rear window slats. not to mention the Shaker hood. all of which are original equipment as reflected on the Marti Report. There isn't much chrome. but what is included on this car is in great shape. including the bumpers and hood pins. This is a high-grade Boss that you can drive. The black interior is ideal for the potent Boss 302. an all-business driver's environment that is both comfortable and functional. Like the paint. the interior was a complete color change from Medium Ivy Green to black. so it's almost entirely new. including carpets. seat covers. door panels. and a fresh dash pad. The red stripe in the seat backs is reminiscent of the Mach 1 and given the bright red exterior. it works rather well on this Boss. too. The gauges are probably original and show a little fading but remain fully functional and a pair of auxiliary gauges have been added down on the console to monitor oil pressure and temperature. Just ahead of the Hurst T-handle shifter you'll also find the original AM/8-track radio that was pretty cool tech back in the day and the trunk is nicely finished. including a new mat and space-saver spare. Lift that awesome Shaker hood and under the air-cleaner-mounted scoop you'll find a correctly coded 302 block. It's correct for a Boss and possibly the original. numbers-matching engine. but given the location of the numbers. we can't verify it. It's properly detailed with finned valve covers. Ford Blue engine enamel and all the correct decals. labels. and markings have been accurately replicated. Even the factory rev limiter is still on the inner fender. which is kind of rare all by itself. It cackles and snarls in the most appealing way and pulls the car around with genuine enthusiasm. Underneath. you'll note that a close-ratio 4-speed powers a 9-inch rear with 3. 50 gears inside. an ideal compromise between acceleration and comfortable cruising. A recent Flowmaster exhaust system gives it that distinctive V8 sound and the floors really are in good shape. It rides on gorgeous Magnum 500 wheels wearing fat 245/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. Documentation includes a Marti Report that details this highly-optioned Boss as the real deal. and even if you're not an investor. you owe it to yourself to discover the awesomeness that is the Boss 302.
