Description for Ford Thunderbird 1957
Our '57 T-bird is a survivor car and is pretty much the way my mother purchased the car in 1970. It has been in the family ever since. It is an "E" code with 2 X 4 barrel carbs. from the factory. There were only 1300+ "E" code T-birds made in 1957. Car was said to belong to Mitch Miller, he legendary band leader, ho performed in the resorts of the Catskill Mountains in NYS. Unfortunately, e do not have documentation to back this up. The story goes that Mitch sold this car to his cousin who lived in Kinderhook, Y (just south of our area). The cousin sold it to a local man who ran a body shop. My mother purchased it from this man. (Attached is a picture of the radio where you can see hand-written "Miller" on it).
T&C radio, S, W, B and P seats. The car comes with both tops. There is some checking on the hard top. The black convertible top is in good condition and is believed to be the original one. Body paint is worn in spots and believed to have been repainted in the 60’s - could use new paint. Body is solid with some rust underneath. Engine is a 312 with 61K original miles, ever rebuilt, ots of power. Carburetors were overhauled recently. Exhaust system, uel pump and power assist cylinder, ront shocks and lower ball joints were replaced a few years back. Radial tires were placed a while back as well. The front end has been aligned and it is solid. It has been properly maintained and it is a good solid original car; excellent driver, ith a lot of power @ 270 HP. What is nice about this car is you turn the key and go. Rather than have it set, e have been driving this car to the local shows and Hemming's cruise-ins since my mother passed a few years back.
A few items that need some attention are the clock and rpm gauge. The T&C radio works but the scan is a little “flaky” when trying to do areturn. Driver window has a crack.Dash padding is loose.
The pinstriped paint was added in the late sixties by the body shop owner. There are 2 pinstripes, ne on the hood and one on the trunk. Chrome is original with spot of rust on rear bumpers. Car was appraised locally by Jerry Linen at $58K a few years back.
