Description for Ford Other 1949
1949 Ford "Rat Rod". I need to sell this to make room. It is a 4-door sedan, hich I get a lot of flack about. I think its great for taking a bunch of people out cruising or to a show. It runs and drives excellent. I will give a detailed list of areas of improvement below. The body is bare metal with rust. It was sanded to bare metal maybe 10 years ago. I have treated it with mineral oil in the past to help maintain the finish. There is minimal body rust on the car. A few small holes in the rockers and lower fenders, nd a small area of rust on the front passenger floor. Structurally is very solid for a car of this age.Engine is a rebuilt 8ba flathead V8 with a Mercury stroker crank bringing it to 255ci. Other than a pair of Fenton headers hooked to open exhaust, here are no performance upgrades. It fires right up, nd idles beautifully. The transmission is a 3-speed on the column without overdrive. Shifts well with no noises. You get a little crunch when you try and shift too fast, ut I get the same thing in my '50 International. Don't know if it's normal, ust saying it's common. Maybe a gear oil change in the trans would help. The car is pretty heavily lowered at 4" all around. The spring buckets in the front lower control arms have been dropped and the springs have a coil cut out. The rear has 4" blocks. The front could stand to have a camber kit installed, nd I have found these online for about $50. It would allow you to use shims and align it properly, orrecting the steering geometry. The brakes and clutch were recently adjusted and both feel great. The original fuel tank was replaced with a '60's Mustang tank custom mounted flush into the trunk floor. This install also removed the pocket for the spare tire. I have included a pic, ut I have made a trunk mat that is normally installed to cover everything nicely. There is an electric fuel pump below the tank. The previous owner had mentioned a difficulty getting the mechanical pump to work, nd I have yet to address it. The car features intact original glass and trim. I will also include the hood trim that has been shaved, s well as 2-door sedan side trim. There is a rare period accessory fog light mounted in the grille bullet, nd the bullet also comes with the car. I have also installed a vintage tow hitch, hat I had planned to use to pull a small motorcycle trailer. The car is normally run without a hood since I think it looks cool, ut a hood is included that is in good shape. It is painted flat white and is pinstriped. I have done my best to get everything working on the car like lights, orn, ipers, eater, nterior lights, oor locks, ents, tc. Currently inoperative is the speedometer, s it needs to be rebuilt. The needle is currently broken off. The defroster needs duct work installed. Clock works intermittently. Radio is not working. The interior is rough, ut great for a rat. Door panels and parcel shelf are recently reupholstered in a heavy distressed grey canvas. No headliner. Front floor has a plastic mat, nd rear area is carpeted. The seats are both worn and torn, ence the blankets. The front seat has some beat up springs as well. If the Buy-It-Now is used, will include a substantial amount of spare parts with this car. I have a spare 8ba flathead that has been disassembled for a rebuild, flywheel and clutch assembly, ellhousing, pare 3-speed trans, pare generator, tarter, pair of NOS water pumps, nd much more. I will be including $1200 worth of parts or more. Also, ith the car I am including a set of new lap belts as well as turn signals. These are the only items still required for inspection in Delaware. I have only driven this car around locally, o cannot recommend a long trip in it. It is being sold as-is, here-is with no warranty expressed or implied. I reserve the right to close the auction early, s it is listed locally as well. Please feel free to ask questions.
