Description for Ford Mustang 1969

If you grew up during the muscle car wars of the 60's and early 70's you will definitely remember the dominance on the street and track of the Mach 1. This is the car that Mickey Thompson took to the Bonneville salt flats and broke 295 U.S. and international records. The car that you are viewing, n original S-code big block car, s all about performance/endurance and is as old school 'cool' muscle as old school "cool" muscle gets. Under the hood is the motor that Carroll Shelby and Ford developed with one major goal in mind, o destroy Enzo Ferrari, nd the car that bears his name, t Lemans. Enzo had successfully dominated that venue for five years consecutively but in 1966 1st, nd, nd 3rd were taken by 427 side oiler powered Gt 40's. This was the first time that an American driven and powered entrant had won this prestigious race and this dominance continued until 1970. This is also the motor that Shelby dropped into his AC Cobras and crushed the competition with. In addition this motor was used extensively in drag racing. When I wrote this ad I put numerous links to substantiate what I am saying about Ford racing and the various components within the engine but Ebay feels threatened by links that take you away from their site and so I couldn't use them. If you want the links give me a call and an email address and I will send you the original ad.
The 427 side oiler under the hood of this Mach 1 was the first year that it came with hydraulic lifters, 968. I have searched and read forums all over the internet and this may be the lowest mileage vintage side oiler in existence. That is not reckless hyperbole. If there is one out there with less usage I will post your correction. The majority of the blocks that were manufactured, nd the number is small because of their cost, ere destroyed or have been bored out to the maximum, esleeved, od damage through the side, elded, eused, nd abused some more. The one in this car has less than 500 miles on it since it was built and it has NEVER been raced or abused. It has been bored five thousandths over only to create the stroker motor that it has become with a displacement of 453 C.I. The previous owner purchased the block in 1980 and it went to the machine shop to be built in 2003. This block has the cross bolted mains that gave it the bottom end strength to handle the rigors of high horse power and the endurance to stay together in racing applications. It is called a side oiler because of the oil channel on the left side of the block that directed the oil to the crankshaft first. If you're unfamiliar with the race history and dominance of this FE motor google it. Today this engine has become a favorite for aftermarket engine builders but the price for something comparable will cost you 25k and up.
Because the engine in this car is so much a part of its value let me begin by stating that the new owner will receive the invoice from the machine shop which details all that was done in the build of this classic motor. The invoice begins with the words "1968 Ford 427/428 New Block." The block was delivered with a stroker kit and 428 CJ heads (C80E 6090-R), hich were thoroughly rebuilt. The crankshaft is a $ stamped forged steel 427 that was welded and milled for the needed stroker offset. The one weak point in the 427 side oiler was said to be the connecting rods but this has been resolved by using Eagle H-Beam rods (6490F3D). The pistons are inverted dome J & E's (162117), nd the rings were "file fit". The cam was manufactured by Crower (#16241). It is somewhere between mild and wild but allows it to idle well while improving on the performance substantially. Breathing is easy through the Hedman headers and Flowmaster exhaust. If you have never heard a 427 side oiler pounding out the exhaust through series 40 Flowmasters you are in for a real treat. Mother's will hide their children and rice burners will pretend to be texting when you idle up to the same light. Up top are Isky adjustable rockers, Weiand dual plane intake, Holley 780 double pumper all brought to life by an MSD ignition. This ignition is 'chipped' for 6000 rpm, bout 500 rpm below actual red line, ust in case one might miss a gear... Like to live dangerously? Remove the chip. The car has never been dynoed but I would estimate horse power at 500 plus.
The engine is mated to the indestructible 4 speed top loader wide ratio that has been completely rebuilt and I have never driven or shifted one that was so precise and tight. The rear end is a 3.50 posi trac that has also been rebuilt including the entire axle with seals and bearings, rakes, tc. This rebuild of the underneath included leaf springs (new, ot re-arched), hocks and all steering components. This car handles and rides as good as or better than new.
On the inside the car looks like new. It has the "deluxe" interior with woodgrain inlays, rim-blow tilt-away steering wheel and an in dash tachometer. This is the only component in the entire car that isn't working. The correct adapter for MSD ignition was installed but it registers incorrectly. I have another dash cluster and tach that will come with the car in case a faulty factory tachometer is the culprit. All other lights in the doors, nder the dash, ignal indicators in both the dash and the hood work as new and the signal switch returns crisply to neutral once a turn has been completed. There is a working aftermarket Jensen stereo in the car but I will include a working factory correct 69 Mach 1 radio with an eight track player that has the correct mounting bracket and an uncut plug. In addition, he heater core and fan motor were replaced. There are no electrical shorts in the original wiring system. There are no cracks, ears, r other blemishes in the interior of the car and everything that didn't look like new was replaced. I should mention that there are some small rock chips in the windshield but no stars or cracking. All of this work was done on a rust free car with floor pans and frame rails that are in amazing condition. How many Mustangs have you looked under where there is zero rust damage but some uninformed individual has crushed a frame rail not knowing that they're made out of 16 gauge (?) steel by trying to jack the car up by them? Or the floor boards are dinged up from the miles or neglect? You won't find that here. Neither will you find thick undercoating that may have been applied to hide rust repair. Look at the photos or come see the car in person. This car is super clean and there is ZERO rust on the torque boxes and shock towers. Much of this can be attributed to the car having spent its entire life in Texas and was only registered once in 1983. It spent the last 32 years parked in a garage as a father and son project and rarely saw the road. The previous owner stated that due to the death of his father it was only driven briefly after the engine was installed for maintenance purposes around his small town neighborhood and was never registered again. One of the ancillary benefits of this careful but unintentional preservation is all of the original plastic Ford wiring clips, tc., hich still adorn the car. The car has no leaks or drips from front to rear. The new owner of this ancient war horse will receive a turn key car.
The paint is a base coat clear coat that looks excellent. The Mach 1 stripes were painted on and cleared over. The car will come with extra paint for touch up, oth the black and red. This car is show or street ready. If you're searching for a muscle car that is unique in a good way you can be certain that you won't run into another 69 Mach 1 with this historic drive train. This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. I can be reached for additional information at (817) 403-7723. If you want to have the car inspected by an independent party call me and I will happily accommodate you. I will also work with the shipper of your choosing and the vehicle will be kept in an enclosed storage until it is picked up.
