Description for Ford Thunderbird 1982

Up for auction is a one owner estate bought custom convertible 56000 mile 1982 Fox body based Ford Thunderbird. Car was sitting in a controlled environment for last 12 years on behalf of a personal estate being managed for the prior owner. A bid was placed and the car along with original pink slip one owner title was received (see attached pic). The car had been sold from a local NJ dealer Winner Ford. Delivery date was late of 1982 (10/12/82). Mileage on car was 1163 miles and was most likely due to the car being fitted by the custom coach works of Coach Limited Builders located in Florida. Once the car was in possession it had been given a complete go through including. oil change. plugs. wires. air filter. crank case breather. cap and rotor. The car runs and drives considerably well. It shows for sure the owner had taken care of his loved and prized possession. This is the only known dealer bought 1982 Thunderbird that exists. for that matter its the only one ever built between 1980 and 1982 ( the fox body t-bird years). Keep in mind when a car like this was authorized to be cut for the convertible option. Ford still had to warranty the cars factory warranty. With that said make no mistake this car was and is very professionally done. The build includes a full interior frame along with under-hood braces all while being hidden from one's sight. I will list below the car in as much detail that I can. Please ask any and all question. I may or may not be able to answer for this car is a rare breed today to begin with and with the original owner passing away little info is available. You will find no info on the world wide web!. The car was recently added to the national Thunderbird registry where I sent pictures of the car and also there it was confirmed to be the only one know to exist. I am not familiar with how the site works but know if you look the cars info is there. I'll start with the outside of the car. For one it is in its original paint (there was some paint work done on the quarters with the cutting of the top etc. I'm sure this was standard practice for any car modified in this way). The paint shines but is 30 plus years old. The sides of the car have good lines and the trim is shiny. there are some dings in the trim here and there but for the most part they are all there and nice. The front bumper has a scuff on the drivers corner (see pic) the rear bumper has a small gouge on the passenger corner. (see pic) The hood and deck-lid have several bumps and bruises. looks like prior hail damage or a tree dropping acorns onto it. There is also a dent in the hood where something like a baseball or such had struck it. I have not nor will I attempt to mess with any of it! This is a original survivor car that's 30 plus years old. The new owner car decide what should or shouldn't be done to the car. The car again overall is very very presentable from any angle you view. It has typical scratches and chips you would find on any car for that matter let alone one that over 30 years old. The underside of the car shows very well (see assorted pics) the only area I see that has a issue or concern is a spot about 4x6 of the rear passenger side floor pan that has rusted. It appears to be all there but is soft. never noticed it until lifted for photos. Not a major issue and nothing structural but want it to be known. The under hood shows well decals and factory labels are in place and visible. the trunk area looks as if it has not been used much. It includes the original spare tire all factory carpets. tire cover. and the top boot along with its storage bag. The gas struts that hold the trunk lid up are new and work as they should. All lights operate and are clear. The wire wheel covers are factory and show good. The headlight doors operate flawlessly also. For the inside of the car it appears the interior is factory all but the conversion parts. these include the rear arm rest and the headliner. The seats. door panels etc all show very well but have wear and tare as expected. They are probably one the best I've seen for any car of this vintage. The carpets are there and complete but also show signs of use. nbsp;passenger side had a small hole where they prob did it adding frame rails for conversion. you have to look to find it but again I want it addressed. The top had been replaced at some point most likely around the time of its on road life somewhere in 2003. the interior along with panels were dyed back to their original white color. You have to look close to even know that they were done. If I wasn't told I prob wouldn't know myself. The convertible top probably hasn't seen much weather since its replacement. it has a few stains etc. nothing that stands out and should with a good cleaning come out. The power top itself runs up and down as it should. It is typical of any convertible with two pull handles and a touch of the switch. The headliner is done in matching burgundy and no known flaws. The top boot is in the trunk and has snaps on the outside to attach. it fits the car well but the snap halfs that were once on the cars outside had been omitted when the car had the replacement top installed. I'm sure they can be added to again attach the boot to the car. The small v8 fires right off on high idle and warms up effortlessly. trans shifts right into forward and reverse with no delays or quirks. The car goes down the road nice and tight. no rattle trap here. Remember this is a 56. 00 mile time capsule of a car. It for the most part is a untouched factory high end car of its day. Again please ask any and all questions. I see this car being on some shore line board walk and local parade nights. It is surely a car to strike a conversation. though you'll be the only person ever with this special one!. This is certainly a pure piece of iconic american history. These cars didn't get their fare shake when built some 30 plus years ago. go figure the same platform (fox body) was continued to be run by ford for years with the next generation of Thunderbird and Mustangs. They are surely tried and true. this one should be in the hands of a collector or hobbyist for years and years to come. Good luck and happy bidding. I will ship anywhere with you setting it up on your end.
