Description for Ford Mustang 1966
Overall Description – 1966 Mustang Convertible. Wimbledon white exterior with black and white pony interior. Mustang is an original “C” code 289 2 bbl automatic car with pony interior “Decoded Vin in pictures”. Has clear title. Currently it has a 289 2bbl and a 4 speed. I still have the motor that was in the car it has C5AE-6015E on it but it has been tore down and will need a complete rebuild. The guy I bought it from said it was originally in the car when he bought looking at the numbers it seems to be correct but who knows. All original components are there (pistons etc) and the crank has been ground and in plastic. If you want all of it its yours. The automatic transmission that was originally in the car is also available and is just sitting but could be put back in if that is desired also yours if you want it also. I also have the driveshaft yoke for the trans. You can see pics of this stuff in my Dropbox photos. I also have the brake pedal and shifter but all would need restored. This car has countless hours of work. It’s a ground up restoration that just about every part has been touched in some form and if not new it was cleaned up. Please look at pictures and enjoy. Below is the breakdown of the individual areas on the car. I think this would make a great car for cruising or shows. I drove it down the road to test out all the gears and it runs and drives well. History - I purchased the car as an unfinished project. It has had a ton of work done to it before I started and then I did even more. When I purchased it the body was painted and the engine and transmission were in the car with suspension. I finished the rest. The previous owner replaced almost everything for the body which I will talk about below. He also put the current drive train in. He gave me the original equipment in case I wanted to put it back in. I will go in more detail below. In the Dropbox photos you can see how much metal work was done. Its basically a new car at this point. Paint - 1966 Mustang Convertible – Wimbledon White (2 stage - Basecoat Clearcoat Dupont Chroma base). shell was completely media stripped and primed with acid etching material after many areas were cut out. Underbody was painted semi gloss and some areas undercoated so it is not red primer like factory but nice. 2k primer was used during bodywork process. car was sealed grey after bodywork and before paint. Car is original color. Many metal parts were blasted and repainted during restoration. Paint I would say is an 8-10 not perfect but real nice. You can see from the pictures there was not much bondo used and it is pretty straight car. I have some white left over incase you need touch up in future. Body – Car is pretty much new. Replacement floor panels. trunk floor. runk drop offs. rear panel. full quarters. front and rear valence. driver door. hood. aprons. torque boxes. frame rails. wheel housings and fenders. If you look at picture you can tell the extent of the repair. Door hinges were also rebuilt. Seams have flexible sealer added to them for protection. Note: if you look at floor pans they are lap welded not butt welded but done nicely. Again quarters are full I put a few pictures of the underside so you can see they are not but welded. Brake System – Car has 5 lug drum brakes all the way around with fairly new pads. All new brake lines front to back and wheel cylinders and hoses. Also added a dual master cylinder off a 1968 for better balance than the single master cylinder it originally came with and distribution block. Also new flex lines to the front. After bleeding it brakes pretty well for a drum system. Glass – Glass is all original except new windshield Power Convertible Top - Top frame is semi gloss black. New tack strip was added in. New top pads. weather-strip. chrome header molding is original. well liner. rear hold down brackets. windshield is new. New top boot and new snap kit on trim. Top is new and black with standard zipper type plastic window. Stainless trim around bottom of rear window was polished. Power top motor works extremely well. Engine & Drive train – Again current block is not original but have a correct style 289. New block is said to be rebuilt by previous owner but I will state that I do not know that for sure other than you can see new gaskets and such but I cannot prove it. He did say and I confirmed with the numbers from the heads and intake are the original to the car and do have the 66 date code under valve covers. He said he had to use them because of the way the front pulleys and brackets bolt to the front of the engine with the power steering. The drive shaft was sandblasted and painted with new U-joints and 64-66 T-10 Yoke. Has a Hurst shifter as well with new ball. The motor itself is as original looking as I could get I wanted it to look authentic with stickers and such. Does have correct style 2100 2 bbl carburetor and cast iron intake and manifolds and new gaskets. Also power steering has new rebuilt cylinder that works extremely well and pump. New water pump. thermostat. water neck. belts. dipstick. speedo cable. alternator. coil. autolite plugs. wires. distributor. coil. hoses. etc. New fluids as well. The engine runs really well and does not smoke. Only thing I didn't change was starter it works well but could be new if desired. Exhaust – New exhaust front to back. Original style with “Y” pipe and long muffler that sits side to side above rearend. Single exit exhaust. Emblems and Trim - New everything – “289” fender emblems. “Mustang” fender emblems. “F. . . ” hood emblem. side chrome is new. mirrors. door handles. bumpers. rear gas cap. bumper bolts. headlights. taillights. taillight trim. turn signals. and Horse in front. Window trim is not new however but nice Engine Compartment – Battery. battery tray. battery tray hold down. heater box – inner rebuilt. heater core. Heater hoses. wiring clips. washer pump. bag and hose kit. bypass hose. radiator hoses. grommets in panels. stickers. radiator cap. engine looks stock with date coded 1966 valve covers etc. . new air filter. hood bumpers. oil filter. battery and starter cables. voltage regulator. wires and so on. Brackets were blasted and painted with cast coat. Harness was gone through and cleaned up. fixed when needed. The only thing you may want is a reproduction Autolite top post battery for authenticity. Fuel System - New fuel tank. sending unit. gasket. ring. rear gas tube connection tube. fuel pump. fuel line and fittings and hose all new. Interior – · Seats –New Pony interior seats and cushions – black and white trim. Original was Ivy gold and white color so if you wanted original it would have to be changed. · Front Door Panels – New black pony door panels and pull cups. Note: rear door panels cleaned and died black · Dash Area – Wood grain dash and other panels restored. AM Radio is in but no speaker. Dual stage windshield wipers work well. Lights also. New dash pad. and visors. steering wheel has new horn button. wheel does have crack · Floor – New black carpet – and shifter rubber and bezel. New pedal pads. sill plates. seat belts and anchors. New kick panel carpet as well. Lights - New everything. rear lenses. parking lenses. headlights. license plate lamps. bulbs. gaskets. fasteners. rear chrome bezels. I don't have the licence plate bulb in though but should work fine. Suspension - Front and Rear Suspension Bushing Kit. Leaf Springs Bolts. Leaf Spring Nut. Shackle kit. new Shocks front and rear. nbsp; Front coils – blasted & painted. Rear leaf springs – blasted and painted. A-arms - blasted and painted. Steering components – cleaned painted or replaced when needed . front sway bar blasted and painted. new bushing kit. rear end blasted and painted. Not sure gear ratio but I assume stock with no posi-traction Wheels and Tires – Original 14” Wheels sand blasted and painted gloss black. original 1966 wire caps. and new Hankook whitewall tires mounted and balanced Trunk - completely media blasted and metal replaced. sealed black and then spatter paint added (not original I know). hounds tooth trunk mat and has original tire hold down and wrench. Do not have spare or jack. Weather-strip - All new weather-strip - Door handle. cowl. convertible side rail. pillar. door. trunk. wind lace. window felts. channel. vent window. door glass channel. quarter jam. door jam. seat plugs on bottom of floor. black 3m sealer used on welded seams throughout car Issues – Just so no one is surprised I will list any issues that the car may have to my knowledge. Some I have stated above but will repeat. The interior is not stock color (in my opinion its better) original is Ivy gold. The engine and trans are not original to car but have the ones that were in the car from the looks of it if you are into that sort of thing. The AM radio does not have speaker so I did not bother with hooking it up. The trunk mat however new has a few cracks in it but not real noticeable. The reverse light switch on the transmission is missing (I will keep looking) I have wiring and bracket is mounted to trans though. The floor panels were lap welded so you can see the transition. this does not really bother me but for some it may. The steering wheel has a crack but you really don’t notice it. The horn is not wired up on the column. Under the dash is a fresh air vent and some of the grill bars have some teeth missing. The trunk springs while they are both there they are not strong enough to hold trunk panel open all the way. The hood is a repop so fit is what it is. If your looking for a trailer queen its probably not it because it would still need a few things but overall it would be a great cruiser. show car or Sunday driver.
