Description for Ford Mustang 1968

This rare Candy Apple Red Mustang was sold April 3, 968 from Burbank Motors in Burbank, A for $3,986.70 (I have copy of window sticker). It spent it's life in California until the late 90's when a collector purchased it in Texas it stayed stored inside with the rest of his collection until last year when I purchased it. I have always kept it stored inside.Cold AC, owersteering and brakes.

Very rare 289 GT/CS Mustang all original with 71 k miles. Marti report included. One of 4100 ever made. Might be the only one in the southeast. No rust anywhere. This was a rare Mustang that shares alot of Shelby parts from the factory.

In mid-February 1968, he California Ford Dealers (Ford Dealer Advertising Fund) began to market a factory-built, imited-edition Mustang, alled the GT/CS, r "California Special". The hope was for a targeted production run of 5,000; however, nly 4118 were made, ncluding 251 units that were remarketed in Denver, olorado, s "High Country Special '68". Production ran for only 5.5 months from mid-February 1968 to early August 1968. Today, lassic car collectors consider these cars to be very desirable.
Lee Grey attended the Ford Preview event for the new 1968 Fords at the Los Angeles Coliseum in August 1967, here he saw a Shelby GT-500 prototype coupe nicknamed "Little Red". This was a supercharged 428, -6 automatic coupe that was dressed up in bright red paint, nd a vinyl roof, s a formal, et high-performance vehicle. It was on display to gauge market response as a possible Shelby lineup Mustang. Lee saw this as an opportunity to use the elements of this prototype to market his "California-Only Mustang". He met with Lee Iaccoca in L.A., nd the decision was made to bring the car to Dearborn to develop into a limited edition Mustang. First, t was known as the "GT/SC", s a nationally available Sport Coupe, hen, fter some discussion, eveloped as the GT/CS.
Shelby Automotive, ow part of Ford, as assigned the task of designing and engineering the necessary parts and assembly procedures for the GT/CS. This was done right alongside the development of their 1968 Shelby. The fiberglass parts were crafted at A.O. Smith, n Ionia, ichigan, n steel molds. A.O. Smith was also the same OEM manufacturer for the Corvette fiberglass bodies. The fiberglass parts for the GT/CS included: the rear decklid and end caps, aillight panel, nd side scoops (RH and LH). Paint has great shine and looks good, as a few chips but nothing major. Interior is all factory original and looks great, ne quarter size wear spot on drivers seat.I just spent $4000 this week on having new style air conditioning installed (I have the original compressor too) and having the carb and entire front suspensionrebuilt. Needs nothing and is ready to drive anywhere.289 engine purrs and does not leak, nock or smoke. Fly in and drive this one home with no problem.
