When I got in to the classic car business 10 years ago I never thought that the first generation Ford Broncos would be a vehicle that I would be drawn to. Well, bout 4 years ago I bought my first one when a guy with a '65 Mustang Fastback offered me his as part of a package deal. After driving that Bronco I was hooked and evidently I was not alone as these Early Ford Broncos have become one of the hottest categories in the collector car market place. Since that time I have owned about 50, 967-1977 Ford Broncos. Some have been completely original, ncut and others have been cut, nd modified for a more aggressive and rugged look. This particular 1972 Ford Bronco stands heads and shoulders above most both cosmetically and mechanically.
I located this Bronco from an enthusiast who had owned several Broncos over the years. He bought this one about 4 years ago out of Arizona. This is significant because this Bronco is believed to have spent its entire life in the sunny, ry Arizona climate. Let me tell you that the body and undercarriage exemplify what a dry rust free Bronco would look like. In fact when it arrived, y technician put it on the lift and began wiping away the dirt on the undercarriage revealing some of the nicest, riginal floor pans we had seen. They still had much of the original red oxide primer on them and were not undercoated like so many you will see. The body was equally as solid and nice, owever the paint was quite old and beginning to show its age. The previous ownerdecided to paint the hood black because the clear coat was peeling and he was not ready to pay for a professional paint job. Well, fter seeing how nice this Bronco was and experiencing how great it drives I decided to send it out for a professional paint base coat/clear coat paint job which resulted in the jaw-dropping beauty you will see below. The previous owner told us he believed this Bronco had just under 50,000 original miles although there was documentation to prove this. It runs like a low mileage motor and the suspension has all been updated, lutch recently replaced, s well as quite a few other upgrades that make this Bronco an extremely fun one to drive. It does have a hard top, oll bar and bikini top so it is ready for all sorts of conditions. I hope the lucky next owner removes the hard top as soon as it arrives and enjoys this baby with the wind in their hair and sun on their face! This Bronco is nice enough for the local shows and will certainly win plenty of trophies if that is what you enjoy, ut best of all it is turn-key ready to drive and enjoy!I will do my best to provide enough large images, video of the Bronco starting up and running, nd an honest description so you can decide if this is the one you have been waiting for. As with all of my classics I have this Bronco listed on my website as well as several other national classic car sites. Therefore, f you decide this is the one for you feel free to call me to discuss how we can make that happen before the next car guy or gal scoops it up. Sit back and enjoy!
By the way, ou will notice a few other uncut Early Broncos in a few pics. We just took a deposit on the Green one, ut thelight Blue 1971 original uncut Bronco just arrived andwill be on the market soon as well. Feel free to contact me for more info on it if that is more your speed.
As I mentioned, his Arizona Bronco still appears to have all of its original sheet metal and there is absolutely no evidence of any rust or rust repair anywhere along the body or undercarriage. Thegorgeous Burgundy metallic paint job is near flawless and I did not notice any rock chips or other flaws to mention in the paint. Body panels areextremelystraight and doors close nicely and do not stick out like so many of these older Broncos typically do. The doors have the chromed hinges and the doors can be lifted off and removed if desired. This was a Sport model so it has the added chrome trim along the windshield and doors and also has the chrome body panel trim as well as the rocker panel moldings. As you can see the rear fenders were cut and fender flares were added toaccommodate the larger wheels and tires. This Bronco has a great stance and truly glistens in the sun. Bumpers are brand new, nd all of the chrome trim looks excellent. There are a few minor dings on some of the chrome body panel trim pieces. Allof the glass is in excellent condition and weatherstripping has all been replaced. Roll bar was powder coated and a brand new Bikini top was added. I think the picture tour that follows will show you just how nice the body on this Bronco is. Take a look:
Living in the Atlanta, a area I love driving these Early Broncos with the hard top off and think they look better that way. However, his Burgundy Metallic beauty looks as good with its hard top on as it does with it off. The original hard top was long gone evidently when the previous owner had bought the Bronco so he located one that is in very nice condition. I had the exterior of the hard top repainted but the inside of the hard top could use a headliner and a little clean up if desired. All new seals around the hard top. Again, think the next owner would be smart to remove the hard top when it arrives and enjoy this Bronco as a convertible but as you will see it is very sharp with the hard top on as well. Here is a group of pics so you can see how great it looks with the top on:
Complimenting the jaw-dropping Burgundy metallic exterior is an equally stunning Parchment white interior. Original front and rear seats have been recovered in the correct original material and look basically brand new. A brand new carpet kit was installed as well as new matching rear interior panels. Original steering wheel has a padded wrap on it for comfort. Dash pad has a black dash cover. The original 3-speed shifter was moved to the floor with a great Hurst shifter which is a blast to drive. Dash looks great and gauges all appear to be working correctly. The only exception is that this Bronco has only been running off the main fuel tank for years and the switch under the drivers seat is not hooked up and the auxiliary fuel tank has not been in use. A nice after market tach was mounted on the steering wheel and a temp gauge also was mounted under the dash showing this truck runs nice and cool thanks to the upgraded aluminum radiator. There currently is no stereo and it appears that at one time the dash may have been cut for one and has since been covered up nicely. Many options exist for adding stereos in these Early Broncos if desired. Heater works great and previous owner had replaced the heater core and lines. Nice set of Toms Bronco floor mats finishes out the interior. The interior is definitely show worthy....take a look:
Okay, o hopefully you agree that this Bronco looks amazing and now you are wondering how does it run and drive....well, o disappointments here as it runs as good as it looks!! The previous owner was pretty sure this Bronco had just under 50,000 original miles based on what he had been told but there was no documentation to back that up. Regardless, he original 302 V8 runs like it has super low mileage or had been rebuilt. The motor has been slightly upgraded including an offenhauser intake, olley 600 cfm 4bbl polished carburetor, nbsp;and a nice set of headers that run out a great sounding dual exhaust. MSD electronic ignition ensures quick and reliable starting. Aluminum radiator keeps this Bronco running nice and cool. Super strong motor that pulls very strong through all gears and has no problem keeping up with traffic at 70 mph. In addition handling is a breeze thanks in part to the power steering and all new suspension. This Bronco nada 3 1/2" suspension lift put on it and the previous owner did a front end upgrade with new drag links and other components. This Bronco tracks down the road nice and straight without any of the death wobble that some of these old, ifted trucks tend to have. Front brakes were upgraded to disc brakes and stop this truck nice and straight. Great stance thanks in part to the Brand new 15x8 American Racing Baja Polished wheels that are wrapped in a close to new set of Pro Comp Mud Terrains 32x11.5x15 that are super quiet and smooth on the street but aggressive enough for off road. Speaking of off road, lthough this Bronco is more of a show truck, he 4Wd engages perfectly and is ready for rougher terrain if needed. Make sure you listen to the video that follows to hear this Bronco start up and running. The undercarriage is also fantastic and has some of the nicest original floor pans I have seen on an Early Bronco. They still had much of the original red oxide primer on them which we dressed up a bit. Lots of chrome under this truck also including chrome front and rear drive shafts, ifferential covers and chrome oil pan. You could place mirrors under this truck at the shows to show it off if desired. I will let the pics and video that follow show you the rest!
