Description for Ford anglia 1948

I want to start off by asking you to please call forhonest answers BEFORE you bid. Or better yet, come by and look at the vehicle or have someone inspect it for you. I do the best I can describing my vehicles and I include very good pictures that can be expanded. I do this to try and avoid any misunderstandings. It is impossible to list every little item on a vehicle that may or may not beimportant to a buyer. Thanks.
Also, please read thepayment section carefully. Iwill not vary off of what isexplained there. Cashiers checks may have hold put on them by my bank. My bank will give me a letter of how long the hold will be. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. The length of hold depends on the bank that it is sent from. Some smaller banks cantake up to 10 business days. The car will not leave here until my banksays the check has cleared. No exceptions. That is why I like wire transfers and cash.
This is a super cool Ford Anglia ex show car, drag car, gasser. This is an original build from the late 60's early 70's. It was raced in and around Lawton Oklahoma. It went by " Psychotic Reaction "and ran in "B" Gas class. If anyone out there recognizes this car, please let me know what you know, and I will pass it along to thenext owner. It sat on display for around 20years in the Eldorado Hot Rod Cafe in Eldorado KS along withmany other vintage hot rods and race cars. The owner passed away recently and all of the cars were sold off. I will list what I know to be fairly accurate.
Body: Original steel Anglia body that appears to have always been rust free and is very straight. I see no signs of metal repair or replacement. The front end, rear fenders, and trunk lid, are fiberglass. The paint is way over the top cool. Done is what appears to belacquer.Ribbons, spiderwebs, and clearwith micro metal flake over the whole thing. All of the glass safety glass and is tinted. Door glass rolls up and down.Doors close very good. Top was filled in the old school way. Tiltfront end isdone very well.
Driveline: 350 small block Chevy with a mild cam. 350 Chevy turbo transmission. Early Pontaic / Olds narrowed rear end with positraction and drum brakes. Note: There are no front brakes on this car. Theydid not use them inthere early days. Speedway sells a complete disc brake kit for around $250.00 that should bolt right onto the Chevy front truck spindles. Don't know the gear rear end ratio, but fromdriving it I'd say it is around 4:11's. Custom built very long tube headers with mufflers. Not too loud. Sounds and runs great. This carstops fine, but I would put front disc brakes on it for safety reasons. I found an article on the web that stated in ran a fuel injected small block Chevy in it's heyday. Note the vintage World War ll plane fuel filter and vintage electric fuel pump mounted on the frame rail in front of the drivers side front wheel.
Chassis: Appears to be an original Anglia frame with modifications. Very long custom made ladder bars with chrome coil over shocks. Custom made chrome wheelie bars. Frontend is a custom made straight axle with Chevy truck spindles. All 4 wheels have the Chevy 4 3/4" bolt pattern. Single buggy style front spring with shocks. Various parts of the front suspension is chromed also. Vintage rear wheels with new repro Firestonepie crust slicks.Repro spoked front wheels and new tires.
Interior: The interior is super nice and of a high quality material. It has a full headliner and a back seat for very short personsonly. The in thedash speedometer and tach do not work. The column mounted tach works. Theother gauges are good including the gas gauge. Someone added the radio. Not sure how to work it. I am a big guy at 6' tall and around 230 lbs. I fit great in this car and it is very comfortable to drive. Of course the seats are mounted pretty far back.
Note: As is common with many vintage race cars, the title was misplaced many years ago. In 1986, someoneapplied for a specially constructed vehicle title in Kansas. This application was approved, so it isactually titled as a 1986 carand a special VIN tag was assigned and mounted to the door pillar by the Kansas Department of revenue. All legally done.
This car starts right upand drives out fine. Not overly fast, but it is overly cool, especially since it is a true survivor from the gasserwar error and not a clone.
Own a real piece of history with this one.
I know I am forgetting something here, so call forquestions and more details.
I have a clear Missouri title that is in my name and it matches the VIN tag.
I will not give out my reserve price. Please do not ask.
NO TRADES, PLEASE DO ASK ASK.
You can make a reasonable offer if you wish, but I will not end the listing once the auction hits thereasonable reserve price.
Now for the business end. I encourage you, or someone you trust or hire, to come by and check out the vehicle in person. I will refund your deposit if the vehicle does not match the abovedescription. The vehicle does not leave here until all funds clear my bank. Bank and cashiers checks can take up to 10 business days. My bank will give me a letter stating the date when the check will clear. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. Bank transfers can take up to 2 days depending on what time of the day it is initiated on your end. Again, my bank will let me know when it clears. Cash is great if picking it up in person.

Couple of items:

The front disc brake kit that will bolt on is from Speedway Motors. SKU # 91031916. Sells for $249.99. Fits 1947 thru 1959 Chevy 1/2 tom pick ups.
The car was in the background on Amercian Pickersepisode done on March 25, 2011. Mike and Donna at the Eldorado Hot Rod cafe. It shows up at 2:18 minutes into the 2:52 minute show.Just the top is visible, but the paint job proves it. I tried toattach the link to the you tube video buteBay blocked it.

Great news. The original owner / builder of the car has contacted me. I have permission to give his name and contact info to whomever wins the bid, but not before. He bought it for $100.00 out of a junk yard in 1967 and started the build. It was painted in 1970 to the color scheme you see today. The fiberglass body panels were purchased from A-1 Fiberglass. It has a Corvair steering box. The engine he ran was a built up 283 Chevy small block with mechanical Hilborn injection. The trans was a 4 speed. ( note: you can still see where the 4 speed shifter hole in the floor pan was filled in from underneath the car. ) The rear end was a Pontiac POSI center section with a narrowed Olds housing and high performance racing axles. He ran it in Lawton OK from 1970 until 1980 and at several other OK tracks. It ran in the 9 second range consistently. He still has a time slip showing a 9.74 second run. He also has a poster from a show that has the car on it, and several other pictures. And he has the bill of sale from when he sold it in August of 1985 to a woman named Carla Sattre which explains the 1986 specially constructed title.
From my conversation with him, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he built this car. He knew things that only the true builder / driver would know. He is a very nice man with a great memory. He still lives in the Lawton OK area and would really like to talk to the new owner and see the car again if possible.

More Good news. I have located the person that purchased the car from the original builder in 1985. This person took out the roll bar and installed the interior. The seats are from an early 80 Porsche 944 that were cut down before reupholstering them. He also custom fabricated the fuel tank in the rear to get rid of the original moon tank that was mounted up front of the radiator. It still had the 283 in it at that time. He sold it in 1986.
Will keep trying to come up with more history / info.

More good news.
The Missouri Department Of Revenue decided to issue the title to me as a 1948 Ford Anglia and not the way the State of Kansas did as a 1986 specially constructed vehicle . Same VIN# but is officially once again a 48' Ford.
