Description for Ford Thunderbird 1964
1964 Thunderbird ConvertibleThe first of the “Flair Birds” generation (1964-66) the 1964 version is considered by some to be the cleanest design in the three year cycle. It is truly a handsome vehicle that is becoming a more iconic part of mid-1960’s American auto design heritage each year that passes. The car being offered is an older restoration that has had some significant mechanical improvements made since. The last long-time owner put over $11,500 into the vehicle including over $7,000 installing a new re-manufactured 390 V-8 by Jasper Engines and Transmissions of Jasper Indiana, one of the better known engine shops in the U.S. The engine is perhaps the strongest feature of the car and we have all the documentation. The car’s top mechanism works although it is slow on the top down function (but quite rapid on the retraction) and the top itself appears brand new. The previous owner had the vehicle for about 10 years and only put a few thousand miles on it. During that period it was always garaged. The car comes with brand new rear shockabsorbersready for installation (although the car does not seem to need them)Standard equipment on 1964 convertibles include power brakes and steering, power top, Swing-away steering wheel, and remote driver’s side mirrorThis car’s original options include: power windows, including rear quarter, power driver’s seat, rear fender shields, reclining passenger seat, rear seat speaker, and wire wheels. It also has an aftermarket “Thunderbird” radio/cassette player with seek function. As mentioned this automobile is an older restoration and is not perfect. The wire wheels have some rust and the left rear lower fender has a few rust bubbles beginning to form under the paint. There is a small paint touch-up on the right front fender. The white exterior and black interior are in good shape overall, but are not flawless (see photos.)An indoor custom car cover is included. Shop, power top, and features and specifications manuals also come with the car.VIN: 2 4Y85Z 14642 0NOTE: This vehicle is being auctioned to benefit a small aviation museum in NJ.For more photos please view the video below.Get your own valid XHTML YouTube embed code
