Description for Ford Ranchero 1957
Back in 1957 the new Ford Ranchero was introduced and advertised as “More than a car - More than a truck.” It was marketed as a sports car that could haul your toys. Well this ’57 ProStreet Ranchero is all that and more. This radically styled and customized ProStreet Ranchero drives like a dream. It was build not only to get from point A to B fast but to do it in comfort. Most ProStreet cars don’t handle well on the road but this one drives as good, if not better, than my Silverado. This is a new build with less than 4000 miles that took nine years to complete. The body work is fantastic (check out how the doors fit in the side view photos).
The 400+ horsepower is generated by a powerful 390 CID Ford FE V8 that is bored 0.060 over with fat, oversized valves, a high lift Comp Cams performance cam and TRW flat top pistons. It is topped by an Edelbrock intake manifold, a 750 cfm Holley carburetor, a Pertonix ignition system and custom FPA headers. Everything inside and out from oil pump to water pump is new. It is topped off with Cobra Le Mans valve covers and a cool bug catcher peaking out of the hood. Cooling is handled by a large truck radiator with dual electric fans. The transmission is a Ford C6 transmission modified for sure shifts by B&M with a Gennie shifter selecting the gears. New balanced drive shaft completes the drive train.
Steering is power rack and pinion. Front end is lowered with dropped spindles and cut coils while the narrowed 9” Ford rear end is a ladder bar set-up. The new third member has 3.25:1 gears which work great for freeway driving and is still low enough for those stoplight encounters. Stopping is handled by a modern power brake system with disk brakes up front and drum brakes out back. The front 165/80R15 tires are mounted on 15” x 3.5” Weld DragLite wheels while the rear Hoosier 31x16.50R15 are mounted on 15” x 12” Weld DragLite wheels.
The cargo bed is finished in flat black, and has two storage areas up front with flush doors that provide easy access to the battery and storage areas. Located at the back of the bed is a flush mounted 16 gallon fuel cell.
Much attention has been given to the exterior and just finished black and gray interior. The windshield and all tinted glass, felts, whiskers, and rubber are new. The paint features custom graphics, satin finished trim, and Real Fire licks that scorch the rust free body on this car. The door handles and trim have been shaved and the tailgate smoothed and molded into the body. The custom interior features a completely smoothed dash with only a full width machine turned insert application and AutoMeter Pro instruments. If nothing else up to this point gave the impression that the driver of this car is serious then maybe the large AutoMeter tach and shift light on the dash should. The controls for the electric wipers and aftermarket heater are under the dash. All other controls (power switch, fans, fuel pump, lights and radio) are handled via toggle switches in the custom build and metal worked console that runs from the front of the interior back and up to the rear window. The console also holds the glove box and two of the four speakers. Other features include power windows, power seats, tilt column, electric doors and remote Custom Autosound USB stereo. You might also notice that everything in the interior has been moved back 2-3 inches giving lots of extra leg room.
Needless to say this is a one-of-a-kind '57 Ford Ranchero that looks good, sits right and handles like a dream. This is a car you'll have fun driving every single day. There really isn’t any need for a buyer to pay to have it transported . . . just fly into Eugene and enjoy driving it home.
