Description for Ford Model A 1930
If you're a Model A fan, there aren't many more desirable body styles than the ever-popular station wagon. And if you're going to own one, you may as well own one of the best: this 1930 Ford Model A station wagon with a fresh professional restoration. No shortcuts, just a beautifully finished woody ready to enjoy at almost any level.Model A Fords are the cornerstone of the old car hobby, and any event you attend is likely to have several in attendance. However, given the rarity and low survival rates of the woody wagons, this car is going to stand out everywhere it goes. It's quite correct, from its Manila Brown bodywork to the black fenders that were standard across the line, and it's quite lovely in every way. Wagons were still the one place where Henry insisted that you get it his way, so you didn't have a wide variety of colors, but the Manila Brown was an outstanding default selection, with a soft contrast against the wood and a bright contrast to the black fenders and wheels. The wood body has been professionally refinished and any pieces that needed replacement have been invisibly stitched in, giving it a complete, all-of-a-piece look. Fenders, hood, and other metal pieces were finished to the same high standards, and all the stainless trim was polished up so it glitters. There's a jaunty single side-mounted spare tire, as original, and the long-grain vinyl on the roof is just the way it was in 1930. All Model As were utilitarian, but some were more basic than others, with the station wagon focusing on function and durability above all else. The brown leatherette upholstery wears like iron, cleans up with soap and water, and has a wonderful vintage look that's wholly appropriate here. This wagon also carries all three rows of seats, which is somewhat rare today because early owners would often remove the rear seat to increase cargo capacity. From behind the wheel, it looks and feels like all other Model As, with a big rubber steering wheel, hub-mounted headlight controls, and the center gauge cluster all wrapped in polished stainless steel. Rubber mats are all you got in a station wagon, and the windows consist of removable side curtains that stow in a neat little compartment under the rear floor. You'll love the exposed bows overhead and it's important to note that this Model A is equipped with seat belts for safety.Ford's familiar 200 cubic inch inline-four is the hobby's biggest over-achiever, with lots of torque and a can-do attitude. Rebuilt and reliable, the little green engine still wears authentic details like the copper strips as ignition wires, a Zenith updraft carburetor, and the exposed water pump shaft. However, it's also been upgraded in thoughtful ways, including a modern alternator to keep the battery topped off, an upgraded coil, and a Borg-Warner overdrive unit that allows this wagon to cruise all day at 55 MPH. The chassis is neatly finished with standard rigid axles and mechanical brakes, and the exhaust makes that familiar Model A sound that everyone loves so much. Black wire wheels are correct and carry 4.75/5.00-19 Firestone whitewalls, as original. This is one of the finest Model A woodies we've seen. Beautifully finished, a joy to drive, and ready to go, it's the one to own if you're a Model A fan. Call today!
