Description for Ford Mustang 1965

Cars like this stunning 1965 Ford Mustang fastback don't happen by accident. It takes planning, vision, and a liquid-cooled credit card to build a car this nice, this fast, and this well-executed. From the gorgeous paint to the rumbling 289 under the hood to the 5-speed transmission, it has been thoroughly massaged and taken to the next level in every possible way. There's really no way to make a Mustang fastback look bad, but wow, the metallic silver paint on this one looks terrific! Sure, it's a modern hue with a ton of metallic and maybe a hint of pearl in it, but it works so well on the vintage fastback shape, giving it a clean, chiseled look. And if you're going to attract all this attention, you had better get the sheetmetal underneath right, too, so a lot of effort went into prepping the bodywork. Gaps are even all around, the doors fit beautifully, and they didn't take any liberties with the tidy original shape. The Shelby-inspired details just reek of speed and performance, and the R-style front bumper, subtle hood scoop, and built-in ducktail spoiler out back are all pieces that will make Mustang fans smile. Blue stripes down the center of the body and on the rocker panels have a cool carbon-fiber look and have helped to create a car that makes people do a double-take and draw them in without even knowing why. It's just beautiful. The largely stock interior has been restored to high standards and shows nary a mark on any of the upholstered surfaces. Look closely, however, and you'll see that the low-back buckets now carry blue and silver seat covers that have a correct vintage look while adding a custom twist. The original gauges have been supplanted by a set of Auto Meter Ultra-Lite dials that give a much better look under the hood while paying homage to the original look. The fast aluminum steering wheel feels great in your hands and takes offers you a better grip than the skinny plastic original, and while the shifter might look like a period Hurst, it's actually linked to a 5-speed Tremec. A Sony AM/FM/CD stereo head unit is in the dash with Polk Audio speakers throughout the passenger compartment. Fastbacks are practical muscle cars, and this car's trunk features a neatly-fitted original-style mat, and please note that the stripes wrap into the jambs, a very cool detail. There's no mistaking the 289 cubic inch small block under the hood, although it's got plenty of upgrades that make it much more 21st century than vintage. There's a big Holley 4-barrel carburetor on top, an aluminum intake manifold, and a set of 351 Cleveland heads that really breathe deeply. MDS supplied the ignition system and distributor and a serpentine belt drive system handles the accessories. For performance under extreme conditions, there's also a big aluminum radiator, as well as a set of long-tube headers to bolster low-end torque. The chassis is nicely detailed, probably to show off that beautiful exhaust system with an X-pipe and a pair of Flowmasters. Four-wheel power disc brakes give it impressive stopping power to match the engine's output and those gorgeous Halibrand-style wheels with staggered 235/45/17 front and 245/35/18 rear tires add just the right period performance vibe.Fully sorted and very nicely finished, this is a resto-mod you can enjoy both on and off the street.
