Description for Ford Model A 1929
If you like traditional hot rods built in true old school fashion, you will appreciate this car. The vehicle is a 1929 Ford Model "A" Roadster. The frame; model "A" rails custom built from 3/16" flat stock, heavier than original, and retain the "open", not "boxed", appearance. Front and rear cross members are original which support the buggy leaf springs. Center cross members also custom made to support the transmission mounts, brake and clutch pedal assembly. Rear of frame is "Z'd" four inches. Front and rear axles are 1941 Ford with the front axle equipped with Ford hubs machined and fitted with Buick aluminum finned drums which look great on a open wheel car of late "50's" era. Rear "banjo" axle includes a Winter's quick change center assembly. All chassis components were powder coated for durability, a more modern touch. Motor & transmission; come from a 1949 Ford truck, 239 cu.in. 8BA, flat head, it's internally stock but is dressed out including a Offenhauser intake with two original rebuilt Stromburg 97's and a GM distributor with mechanical advance and chrome goodies. The starter and generator have been rewired to 12 volt. Transmission is Ford truck adapted to a torque-tube drive shaft to keep with the period theme. The Body; is hand fabricated sheet metal and pattered from original panels. Only about 10% of the body is original Model "A", photos will indicate this is no patch job. All welds were "Hammer welded" and the body smoothed out and finished in semi flat "battle ship grey" acrylic enamel. Body and frame were hand pinstriped and the Rat Fink on the truck was hand painted.Upholstery & top; thanks to my wife, stitch work was done in marine grade vinyl in a tuck & roll pattern and the roadster top was custom built to suit the car and the fabric is Stay-Fast. The gauges are from a 1950 Ford truck and the shifter is a real attention getter. This little roadster rolls along on Diamond Back "wide whites" mounted on original 1940's era "steelies, 16 x 4 1/2" on the rear and 16 x 4" on the front. It's a fun summer time cruiser and has won many awards including "people's choice" x 2. This is no "credit card" hot rod and four years went into the build and all mechanical, body and machine work was done by myself with fifty years experience in the trades. A special thanks to my wife Jackie for her help and patients. Winning bidder must submit a retainer at the end of the auction and payment term are either cash, certified check or money order in US funds. Checks and money orders must clear before the car is released and new owner is responsible for pick up of vehicle.
