Description for Ford Deluxe Convertible 1940
1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible original "Hot Rod". Let me start with saying I found this car a year ago in Fort Lauderdale Florida in the garage of a hoarder that had recently passed away. It was part of a collection from which I purchased a couple of cars from. The previous owner purchased this car in the late 60's from a guy inCalifornia and brought it to Fort Lauderdale Florida . It was used once or twice and stored away in his attached a/c garage where I found it. When I purchased the car I put a few pictures on the "Hamb" to see if anyone had ever seen or heard anything about this car. Sure enough a story came up that this car was built inPasadena California by a guy named Kirby Miskiman back sometime in the 60's. The car was known by people in the hot rod seen out there. I have no other info on the history and would welcome information if any one has some. Now for the car. The car is an original 40 Ford Deluxe convertible with the exception of the engine. It has a Chrysler 331 Hemi with Dual Carter 4 barel carbs and an 50's Cadillac Bat Wing air cleaner. The conversion was done back around 1965 as the info I have found and was done verynicely. The car is all original metal with a super clean California body and undercarriage. When I got the car the first thing I did was take it to a local speed shop and had it gone through at an expense of over $9000 dollars as I amembarrassed to say. I told them to do it right as I was planning to keep this car for a while and wanted to enjoy it. To begin with all 4 tires were replaced with BF Goodrich Silvertown bias ply tires. Next the gas tank and sending unit were replaced as were the fuel lines andfuel pump. Both Carter Carbs were sent out to be re bushed and re built. The cylinder heads were removed and a valve job was done while they were off as it was believed the valve springs were week from age and sitting. Also the cooling system was gone through with a new water pump, aluminum radiator and electriccoolingfan being installed. The car runs at 170 degrees on a Hot Florida day and never got hotter in traffic or on the highway. The complete brake system was overhauled with new wheel cylinders, linings and a new master cylinder. The mechanical work was done by Keith's Rods and Customs in Oakland Park Florida. Also a complete new exhaust system was custom made . Thecar has its original 3 speed manual transmission with what I believe is a Hurst aftermarket floor shifter probably from the 50's but I am not sure. The rear axel appears to be original also. All the suspension also appears to be original as well. The seats are black vinyl and were alsorecentlyre done to look original. The convertible top works very well but the zipper on the foggy rear window came apart on me so probably should be replaced as well as there is a small hole in the top that is notnoticeable. The headlights and tail lights were re done and a brake light system was also installed. The car runs and drives exceptionally well both on the highway at 70 mph and around town. The car has the original heater and a working factory wind up clock. This car is being sold as an un restore, survivo, period correct Hot Rod in as is and as shown condition. Please call me anytime with any questions. I am open to interesting trades as well as long as they are agreed to prior to bidding. Ian 773 551 5075.
