Description for Ford Falcon 1970
Up for sale in the Tampa showroom is one of the rarest birds around, the 1970 ½ Ford Falcon. How many of you realized that there were two different Ford Falcons offered during the 1970 model year? This was an interesting time for Ford, as they were phasing out the Falcon, to supplant it with the Maverick. On the other hand, they wanted to hedge their bets and continue with a nameplate that served the company well for almost a decade. However, when it became apparent that the Maverick was a hit the Falcon nameplate soon vanished (at least here in North America). But look what we have here... A car that was produced for a period of less than six months, with a unique body style, and with a 429 Cobra Jet under the hood, with that being said we present you the six month wonder, the 1970.5 Ford Falcon. An interesting event occurred as the Falcon line was coming to an end. Production terminated entirely on January 1, 1970. For a brief time thereafter, the '1970 1/2′ Falcon was offered. The 4-door and Station Wagon were re-badged Fairlanes, with Falcon specific chrome, but the 2-door was unique to the Falcon line. The Torino and Fairlane lineup had 2-door vehicles, but they were fastbacks and hardtops. The Falcon was the only one offered with a 2-door sedan (it has a b-pillar behind the driver door glass). The Falcon line did not offer fastbacks or hardtops. Interestingly enough, this '70 1/2 Falcon had seven engine choices up to the awesome 375 hp 429 cu in Cobra Jet V-8 that this sleeper survivor holds. Now all these cars have their special stories that make each classic special. This particular one is a full blown survivor. This is a one owner car that was meticulously cared for over the course of its 40 year life. Deluxe Marti Report shows this particular Falcon to be 1 of 42 to be powered by the Super Cobra Jet engine package but not include the Ram Air package. This my friend is the first true sleeper. This car was a loaded down factory drag pack equipped with 4.30 gears, close ratio transmission and a stock Detroit Locker assembly. The car was built in the Atlanta plant 05/1970 which was getting close to the end of the production for this half year wonder. Sold originally at Gallo Ford in Chicago for a whopping $3,840 and only 5800 miles was put on this one owner car in its 40 years. That's 145 miles per year. This is not a car you want to miss out on. Options on this gorgeous 1970 ½ Ford Falcon include: Vinyl seat, AM Radio, seat belts and Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in the original bias ply tires.
