This car, originally assembled in Ford’s San Jose, California factory on September 10, 1966, was originally ordered for delivery to the Phoenix, Arizona area. It has been lovingly cared for by the same Kentucky owner for the last eight years, averaging 1,xxx miles per year
Finished in orange with a black interior, the paint is very good shape, with a few blemishes seen when standing close to the car and in the pictures. The car’s glass is clear, intact and in fine condition. Vehicle lights are in similar good order, present, in one piece, haze- and crack-free. Bumpers appear original are in great shape and the car has all of its exterior trim. The dual Magnaflow exhausts are routed through the rear valance, as is typical on GT models. New vinyl power black top comes with plastic rear window. Car has OEM GT Rally Wheels surrounded by BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, size 225/70R14. All of the droptop’s body panels are straight, its engine bay is very tidy with a battery that looks new and trunk’s interior is also in good condition.
The car’s previous owner, from Louisville, Kentucky, had the following work performed – in March 2007, he had ; in July 2008, oil and filter change, replaced oil pump with Melling Select unit that pumps 25 percent more by volume, replaced multiple coolant system parts, replaced drive belts, installed new spark plugs and plug wires, installed MSD Pro-Billet Digital E-Curve Distributor and Blaster Coil, Hedman headers, Ford Racing valve covers, Edelbrock 750 carburetor with manual choke, Carter fuel pump, fuel line, heater core and heater hose and A/C converted to R134a; in August 2008, installed an engine kit, intake and related items and five new tires; in October 2008, did 500-mile oil change after break-in period, adjusted convertible top, installed new rear brake shoes, new valve lifters installed in engine to eliminate engine noise; in March of 2009, installed a new transmission ring and pinion, repaired center console, installed new muffler and rear tip, fixed loose wiring connection to turn signal, reset final drive to 3.00:1, changed speedometer and replaced all four shock absorbers with Monroes; in January 2010, replaced oil pressure switch, repairing loose wiring and high beam headlight switch; in November of 2010, he put the vehicle in storage for the winter and had the engine oil and filter changed, a leak check done; in August 2011, replaced master cylinder; in April of 2012, he bought an exhaust kit for the car and he had it installed in May 2012; and in July 2016, he had a new vinyl top with plastic rear window installed.
Inside, the black Deluxe Pony interior looks great and contrasts nicely with the car’s paint color. The seats are in very good order, as are the matching carpet and floormats. The dash, with its Rally Pack of gauges is crack-free and looks good. The three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel entices you to take hold of it and drive. If top-down cruising becomes too hot a prospect, put up the top and turn on the air-conditioning. The door panels reflect the rest of the inside and are in similar condition. The center console looks great, as does the shift lever for the four-speed manual.
The 1964 introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. Initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible, a fastback version went on sale the following year. Over the years, it has become the favorite subject of many custom car builders and racers.
This is a great way to head out on a cruise with the top down, sun in your face and wind and falling leaves in your hair. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
