Description for Ford Torino 1969
So here we have a 1969 Ford Cobra 428 Cobra Jet with factory Ram Air. It is rare of the rare with a standard Marti report listing it as 1 of 3 with these paint and trim codes. I have an elite Marti report ordered which will break it down even further. Factory options include a very rare two tone paint of Wimbledon white roof and a Candyapple red bottom. only 3 cars were ever made this way. Other options include electric clock/visibility group (indicators still work). buckets/console/power disc brakes/power steering/rear speakers/tinted glass/color keyed mirrors/ram air. For more information about how rare these one year only Cobra's are check out Hemmings article about them. most of these cars came bare bones racers. this one is loaded with options. History of the car: The car was ordered by the owner of a Ford dealership in Indian Head for his wife as a grocery getter (the original warranty card goes with the car). The car was used as a demo by her for the first 2 years of its life and then when it had been 'written' down enough she bought the car. She owned the car until '84 and at the age of 86 decided to sell it. This owner purchased and summer drove the car for the next 10 years at which time he decided to restore it. So in 1994 the motor was removed. stock rebuilt and resealed. The car was sanded down. two tone trim removed and the car was repainted in base coat clear to one color. candyapple red. In 2006 the weld seams on the drivers door started to separate and so a new door was sourced out of California and installed. The left fleet side of the car was repainted and matched to the base clear from '94. Today: I would consider this car to be an above average driver quality car. Although the paint shows no signs of poor body work. rust bubbles. chips etc. the color match from '04-'96 is less then perfect. Upoun close examination a slight difference can be seen along the top of the drivers fender to the hood and top of rear quarter to the trunk as pictured. Not a huge issue but I have to mention it. As well in the pic there is a scratch on the rh rear quarter panel from backing up too close out of a garage. There is also a small crack in the paint on the left side behind the back window where a hole was filled for the removal of the two tone trim. Interior appears to be original and in excellent shape. Undercarriage appears rust free with the original undercoating still in place. Engine bay is original. motor runs very well and electric choke functions properely. carb was changed out to a DOZF-9510-Z. ignition was changed to a duraspark at some point. The gear ratio in the diff although still original had been upgraded to a posi. Restoration: I am a car guy. a car lover and have included a pic of some of the cars in my collection. As you may have noticed most of my collection consists of cars of the 2 seater variety so this car doesn't really fit my profile. My cars would be considerd 'trailer queens' that are regularly driven on sunny summer days. So if this car doesn't sell for what I want and I end up keeping it I would do the following to bring it up to my standards: I would completely go through and detail the undercarriage replacing e-brake lines with stainless. brake hoses. bushing and etc. The interior would not require anything cause everything appears to be in excellent original form. The body I would sand down. nbsp;(simply cause red seems to be impossible to match 100%). return the roof to white and repaint the bottom to red. For the engine bay I would remove the engine and tranny. clean and detail. reseal and repaint. Detail out the engine bay and reinstall. So a light restoration that would return this car back to indoor car show status as well as an enjoyable sunny day driver. And on the flip side greatly increase its value of course. I do have the correct center caps on order and they will go with the car. 2 were in stock and 2 are back ordered. Also the hoses to the heater core had been cut and plugged due to I think a leaking heater core. So I am currently installing a brand new one. with new hoses so the heater although not needed will be operational. So again I am a car guy. I'm not interested in wasting your time/money so please don't waste mine. bid if you are truly interested in the car. As well I am not going to ask for a non refundable deposit (although a depsit is required). I don't believe in that and I'm not interested in keeping something that isn't mine to begin with. If after the auction after seeing the car its not something you expected or wanted. all I ask for is the cost of this auction back. Full payment is required within in 10 days of auction end. However once the car has been paid for and shipped it is sold as is where is. this is a 45 year old driver quality car and there are flaws and high points that I am sure I have missed. Also in the spirit of the auction the reserve will not be released and I do not have a buy it now. I will assist in shipping where I can and can also help with importing stateside or international. I have imported myself several times.
