Description for Ford Mustang 1965
Title says Restored but its more of a upgrade not a restoration although many of the mods were to original type standards, interior and wheels.Very Nice Mustang More then a Project Car but one that just needs body and paint to be a really nice solid car.
My son and I bought this as a 6 cylinder 3 speed car and built it to be safe, fun and added a V8 along with other creature comforts that were desirable. This was a great platform to bond with my son and teach him something about cars as well. This would be a perfect resto rod for someone to take to the next level.
Car runs great and can be driven anywhere with a big smile and lots of thumbs ups or while getting gas plenty of questions from people.
Here is what has been done.
New Rear end to include all gears, bearings and seals, 3:73 ratio.
T5 5 Speed new .
Front Disc Brakes and rear Drums brakes all new.
New Drive Shaft and U Joints.
Electric Fuel Pump,
Edelbrock 500 CFM Carb installed, spare 600 goes with it as well.
New Wheels and Front Tires Rear are Okay but one year old.
Front and Rear Suspension Upgraded and new, shocks, springs and all new nylon Bushings
Sway bar added with Red Bushings
Electric Power Steering with variable adjustment control. Awesome Package!!
Led Rear Lights
Led Reverse Lights,
New Radio that fits dash perfect.
Interior Carpet great and was changed 1 year ago,
New Driver Seat and cover completely new.
Spare Passenger seat cover. One on it now is great just bought two as a package.
Trunk Carpet one year old.
New Front and rear bumpers.
1985 302 that came out of a friends model T project. He had 83,000 miles on it mild rv cam and
edelbrock torquer manifold installed. This was a great motor for son to start off with, Good acceleration and reliable . This engine and the t5 and gearing make it a nice streetable car.
Vintage AC system--- 1600
Rear end ---1000
Electric Power Steering 1800
Power Brakes --- 500
Disc Brakes ----1200
T5 Transmission 5 Speed 1400
Vintage AC and heating system added 6 months ago. This made the car a dream to drive in winter or summer.
Headliner is perfect.
Dash Lights are led and panel is new.
One year old Aftermarket center council.
Cable Clutch conversion.
Headers and Dual exhaust exiting through rear valiance one year old as well.
We drove the car about a half a year before we started upgrading to the V8 and other mods.
Any known issues:
Engine has one or two oil leaks, I think Valve cover gaskets, I may get to change them this week if I get time.
Steering Box should be changed. Not bad but if this were changed the car would handle like a new car with all of the other things we did. You may not even notice I'm just picky.
Body looks great in pictures and from 10 feet. You could drive and enjoy this car for sometime without touching it but its a shame not to have the body perfect with all of the other stuff we did.
Car is nothing to be ashamed about at all and does shine up nice.
Frame is in great shape as is trunk and floor pan area.
If we were keeping it I would upgrade to fresh 302 engine with mild build and do the body and paint. Most of the hard work of fitment and figuring things out have been done along with all of the mods to accept the modern trans and power steering.
Why are we selling the car? My son is going off to College and needs a car that is more practical and that gets better fuel economy. he currently drives 70 miles plus per day and needs something more suited for these drives. We have found him the right car and have told him he can't have two cars. I have way too many other projects going on to keep this one and make it a true show car so have decided to sell it someone else can enjoy it as it is or go to the next level.
I have all receipts for the build.
